08:37 AM ET 05.20 | First Winnipeg speculation, now this? Pierre Karl Peladeau, president and CEO of Quebecor Inc., is talking to the National Hockey League about the possibility of bringing NHL hockey back to Quebec City, the city's mayor, Regis Labeaume, revealed Thursday. Labeaume let slip the news that Peladeau was in contact with the NHL at an impromptu scrum after an 11th-hour meeting with Amir Khadir, the only Quebec solidaire member of the Quebec National Assembly. Emerging from the 90-minute meeting, Khadir said Labeaume had convinced him to at least consider a bill giving immunity from legal challenges to an agreement between Quebecor and the city. "I am a democrat," Khadir said, but he warned that he could still torpedo the deal if he judges it not in the interests of Quebecers.

Dear Quebec,
If you are going to build an arena to potentially house an NHL franchise, build it large enough to hold more than 15,000 people and allow room for people to actually be able to move around in it (unlike the actual size phone booth, I mean MTS Centre, they built in Winnipeg).
Minor league building, minor league town...
PS : Can't wait for the Nords-Habs rivalry to start up again.

Thrashers are going to Winnipeg. True North Sports says they have a deal to move the Thrashers, the Buttgoblin says not yet.

As long as the new team models it's uniforms after Calgary's in the Heritage Classic, it will be great.

Aye, my friend, but this is no immortal evil we face now.

Move the Panthers, or Coyotes there, the Thrashers move seems pretty close to being a done deal. I wish they were getting back the Coyotes though

Frankly, I don't give a damn any more.

Yup the Peg only sits 14,000..no idea how they're supposed to make a profit with only that much...i'm assuming they're gonna expand it somehow. Another farnchise in Canada would be awesome.

No problemo GB - they just have to close three or four streets, build another shell, AND another tier of horrible nose-bleed seats?? - of course, the facility should be changed as needed, but, not substantially - at least, not before absolutely every other revenue-generating alternative is completely exhausted. If the building doesn't sell out permanently, like all of the other Canarduckian franchises - then the franchise should be moved to Saskabush, where it definitely would be, and where there'd be 20,000 seat facility, before the Qs even start digging.

The upper bowl seats expand MTS Centre's capacity to just over 15,000 for hockey. There has been contractors in there for the last 6 months building more luxury suites and there is a construction plan to raise the roof up to add another 2500 seats submitted to the City of Winnipeg that has been approved contingent on the NHL coming.
