10:02 AM ET 05.21 | With the Atlanta Spirit ownership group deep into negotiations to sell the Thrashers to True North Sports and Entertainment, which would move the franchise to Winnipeg, Manitoba, current and prospective season-ticket holders plan to attend a select-a-seat event in Atlanta on Saturday. Talks also continued with a prospective buyer willing to keep the team in Atlanta, but indications were that the sale to the Winnipeg group could happen as early as next week.

The tiny fraction of Atlanta fans that will attend this, "event", must have missed the effect the tens of thousands had in Quebec and Winnipeg trying to retain their teams. (Without success)
Landing a Thrasher eh?
Sounds like it will land right in the middle Manitoba Jet airfield and be snowed in for years.

They should be moving to Cleveland. Another stupid move by the NHL. Why the hell do they have teams in the south? Florida, Phoenix, Nashville? Come on Thats a joke! Cleveland will draw and has one of the largest youth hockey programs in the nation. The Lake Erie Monsters draw over 8, 000 in the AHL too.

Don't bring back the Jets nickname, please.

Cleveland's team in playing down the interstate in Columbus. There is no way that the NHL will have two franchises in Ohio.

A sidebar to this story.

I'd like to thank Brian Burke (and his puppet Glen Sather) for the new WHL team here in Victoria. Burkie and Slats each owned 25% of the Chilliwack Bruins, a 2005 WHL expansion team. When it was obvious that a NHL team would be heading back to Winnipeg, the slime-ball Burkie knew the Manitoba Moose would have to eventually be relocated. Of course, the Moose are the AHL affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and would have been a good fit here in Victoria and obviously convenient for the Nux. So Burkie sold his team to RG Properites that own the arena here. Therefore, blocking any chance of the Moose relocating to the advantage of Vancouver. Could this man be a bigger **** bite? I'm not a big Nux fan but come on Burkie, do you have to be a jerk all the time? Because of your petty tantrum with the Nux you screwed over the city of Chilliwack just to block the Nux from having what you have, an easily accessible minor league team. What a prick!

The Mayor in Winnipeg is feeling pretty cocky today. I hear now he is trying to land the Bills or the Jags....

Tell that to the people of Chilliwack.

Burkie better hope his plane is never diverted to their airport. :-)

The Blue Jackets already have have lower attendance than than all of the teams mentioned except for PHX (27th in attendance). They are also losing a ton of money (25th in operating income)

I think you better focus your efforts on keeping them as this ATL move and the stronger CAN dollar will open the door for more team movement.

Burke and Sather - extreme hubris alert - does the hockey Universe stand a chance? Sounds like the shoe could fit, Canny.

Were they called the Jets because of the military flight school that's around there?

And is there really a military division called Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Winnipeg? They should probably change that name too.

You know Burkie he isn't satisfied screwing up his own team so he is trying it with others. An affiliate in Victoria would be great for the Nux but it wouldn't be the Moose they are now the property of the new Wiinnipeg team. A likely scenario for Van is taking over Atlantas old affiliate or do what Edmonton and Calgary did buy their own team and put it where they want it.

They were called the Jets because of the many companies that were located there. Boeing, Standard Aero, Avro, Bristol Aerospace, Magellan Aerospace. It WAS one of the largest jet building sites in North America
