DeRosa's future in doubt

10:30 AM ET 05.21 | Mark DeRosa stood at the plate Wednesday in Los Angeles, his wrist throbbing. "It felt like a bomb went off," but he had been too stunned to understand what happened. He saw his bat on the ground and thought catcher Rod Barajas ripped it out of his hands. Minutes later, he understood he seriously reinjured a left wrist that has been fixed twice in surgery. Now, DeRosa must see the surgeon in Cleveland again, sometime next week, to see what's what. This is not a reinjury, per se. The two operations repaired the sheath that covers the ECU tendon. This time, the tendon itself partially tore. DeRosa will not learn a prognosis until he sees Dr. Tom Graham. Until then, he does not want to dwell on whether his career is over. But he is human and has thought about it. The last thing he wants is a permanent disability.

When you injure yourself just waiting for the pitch, it may be time to hang 'em up.

Sorry to hear about this, DeRosa resurrected his career while in Texas after coming up the Braves organization and being almost a can't-miss prospect. And he was swinging the bat very well earlier this season and appeared to be on the right track after slumping the past couple of seasons. Hope he is able to play again...soon!

One of the good guys. On another note, I wonder if he has to wait in line for weeks to be able to get into the good doc in Cleveland like the rest of us?

Yeah. Done. He seemed like a nice guy. Too bad the Giants will never know what kind of player he could have been.
