Rangers scouring market, Hanrahan on radar

08:19 AM ET 05.23 | As it turns out, Michael Young is the least of Texas' worries -- arms, that's another matter. The Rangers already are scouring the market for relievers and expect to pursue starters, as well. The ideal bullpen piece would be a hard-throwing right-hander who could set up for Neftali Feliz for the rest of this season and then replace him as the closer in 2012. The Pirates' Joel Hanrahan, for example. The Rangers, according to a major league source, have made low-level inquiries on Hanrahan, who is 13 for 13 in save opportunities this season with a 1.66 ERA. Hanrahan, 29, is under club control through 2013. But the Pirates, who entered Sunday only one game under .500, are trying to build momentum and end their streak of 18 consecutive losing seasons, a major league record.

Dangle a couple Little Leaguers in front of them, call them prospects and Hanrahan will be gone in a flash.

Not sure Hanrahan will help as Washington doesn't know how to use relievers anyway. The only thing worse than having BOTH Oliver and Rhodes in your pen is letting them pitch to right handed hitters which he does all the time.

if the pirates are tryin to rebuilt and stop the 18 consecutive loses seasons i don't think that they should trade their closer just because the rangers are tryin to get better on their bullpen, perhaps the rangers should take a pick on the royals franchise it seems like there its more than enough good pitching and very good prospects!!

i wonder why the rangers don't ask about the late closer rodney from the angels i'm sure the angels would give this player to them for free!!

This shud have een addressed in the off season. They new that Lee wasn't going to come back, yet they wasted time and money trying to get him, and all the while, other propects were gobbled up by other teams. The Rangers better be glad that the rest of the AL West is as weak as they are.

Not to worry...Nolan will have the media looking on eway than flip the switch when they aren't looking! I do agree with one comment though...Wash needs to rethink how he uses the bullpen! He's made some real iffy calls!
