Lakers' next coach comes cheap

08:08 AM ET 05.24 | The number may be more clear than the name in Los Angeles. The Lakers have yet to pare down a short list of coaching candidates but one thing is certain. The winner of their coaching derby won't make anything remotely close to what Phil Jackson earned the last several years. Jackson topped out at $12 million in 2009-10 before taking a pay cut last season to about $10 million. The new Lakers coach can expect an annual salary of $3 million to $5 million, according to people who are familiar with what the Buss family is thinking. That is barely half what Jackson made in a best-case scenario for the new hire. ... Candidates for the Lakers job include Rick Adelman, Mike Dunleavy, Jeff Van Gundy, Mike Brown and Lakers assistant Brian Shaw.

That Because the Zen Master is a Hall of Famer. It like having a Kobe as a player and Kobe as a Coach. His record speaks for itself, rings, wins, triangle lol

What the heck happened, Im watching and OKC up 15pts in the 4th, come back later overtime, Dallas wins... series 3-1.

Kobe gets to decide. I don't think I see him playing for JVG, Adelman, Dunleavy or some other recycled taskmaster. Mike Brown coexisted successfully with LeBron, so that might work. Still, isn't this Brian Shaw's job?

What he did last night was historic.

I don't believed that the next Lakers head coach though of getting paid as much as Phil. If it Adelman he will probably look to get what he got paid in Houston and Sacramento. Phil had a rep for winning championship and was in demand, the next best thing for the Lakers is Adelman.

Yep...But like usually no one wants to give him his credit....Its easier to pile on than to admit maybe they were wrong about Dirk being soft and a choker....
