Avs ready to trade for Bernier?

08:21 AM ET 05.24 | Many observers believe the Avalanche's goaltending plans at present do not include a superstar free agent. Josh Harding? The Minnesota Wild goalie missed all of last season with a knee injury. Risky. Jean-Sebastien Giguere? Too many miles, sorry. Marty Turco? No thanks. Chris Osgood? Pass. If the open market doesn't suffice, that leaves the trade market. Want to go for someone young and promising? It's going to cost. Jonathan Quick or Jonathan Bernier in L.A. -- wouldn't be cheap. Cory Schneider in Vancouver? Would be even more expensive. But if the Avs want to go for a young promising goalie they would have to trade a decent roster player and the No. 11 pick. That would probably be more than fair. Maybe a T.J. Galiardi and the pick for Bernier?

Bernier or Schneider would be good pick-ups, but you need to surround a good young goalie with a team....so get to work.

I know they need goaltending, but a number 11 pick and a good player seems a little steep to me. There are some FA goalies out there who would be decent, which would be an upgrade for the Avs.

Looks like Bernier is asking to go to the bathroom in that picture.

Or he just did. :-)

That's actually a pretty cool looking sweater.

Shhhh be quiet B.F...Burke is going to be calling and he does not need you tipping off the Avs just yet thank you.

If the Avs drag a goalie off the To***to scrap heap they're more mismanaged than the Leafs.

getting sent to play goalie in Colorado is like a death sentence. It's hard to put up good numbers when your team has absolutely no understanding of defense. Add the fact that they traded Craig Anderson (the guy does miracles for horrid teams) for a bag of pucks (Brodeur is not a legitimate prospect), and you see why their team sucks.

Either that or he wants to answer the trivia question asked during commercial breaks.

Why would Schneider be more expensive than Bernier or Quick?

May 24, 2011  12:44 PM ET

Haha, you guys Avs fans are fooling yourselves if you think Dean Lombardi, Kings' GM, will part with Bernier for something as meager as "a young player and the #11 pick". Unless you're willing to pony up Matt Duschene as the young player.

I asked myself the same question. I don't know the contract situation of any of those players (and at the moment I'm not going to check it out either). We know Schneider is good, but he also had the NHL's best team in front of him, and he's never carried a full load. IMO Quick stays in LA, and Bernier has alot of the same question marks as Schenider.

Both Schneider and Bernier are solid prospects, but neither is a lock to be a top NHL goaltender (especially if playing for the team in the league that best illustrates West Coast Offense). Both teams (Vancouver and LA) are going to have to make a decision (more so for LA, Vancouver is pretty much stuck for-better-for-worse with Luongo)...so it should be interesting.

Philly should definitely look at locking up one of these two, they are miles better than what they have now.

I hope this is a joke. The goalie market in the NHL has never been particularly strong; even less so for a back-up. Good prospect, YES, absolutely, but at the moment he is exactly that, a prospect. He has by no-means proven himself yet in order to command a player of the quality of Duschene.

I couldn't see any team giving up anything close to a Duschene calibre player + a number 11 pick to land Bernier. So Murray is supposed to sit on two goalies for the next ten years? Right...

Anderson is a very very good goalie. He's been forced with too much playing time or inconsistent time and mediocre teams at best. I'd build a team around him, but that team (like any) needs talent to help a goalie out.

agree with you 100%. Anderson did everything he possibly could in Florida, Colorado and now Ottawa. The man is cursed to walk this earth jumping from one horrid team to the next. he really, really needs to hold out until free agency and hang on with a half decent team.

Bernier: ummm...coach....coach? May I say something?

Coach: yes johnny?

Bernier: Please don't make me go to Colorado. Anywhere but there

Coach: it's out of my hands...and you can put your arm down now.

Okay Paul Holmgren thank you for your insight

Cause the Canucks are solid throughout their roster so they don't have to fill any holes therefore they would have to be offered more to part with Cory
