08:17 AM ET 05.24 | Coming as a surprise to many, Ed DeChellis has left Penn State for Navy. DeChellis's decision to leave Penn State for Navy includes a considerable pay cut, according to published reports, but apparently job security was more of a priority than financial comfort, although during a news conference hours after the hiring confirmation, he repeatedly denied that supposition. ... "It's not really about that, and I can't say that enough," said DeChellis, who takes over two weeks after former Navy coach Billy Lange resigned to become associate head coach at Villanova, where he was director of basketball operations under Coach Jay Wright from 2001 to '04.

Is the Big 10 a really a high profile CBB conference outside on Columbus, Ohio?? Just askin.....

I know Izzo is a landark, but what have they won in the last 10 yrs? IMO Big 10 CBB = SEC CBB. Take awat tOSU and Kentucky, and not much left to brag about from either conference.

Good question and good points. Most people think the Big 10+1+1 is high profile or "elite" for everything...just like many other BCS AQ conferences. However, in hoops (and baseball) those so called "mid majors" give the biggies he!!...and deserve more slots in the tourney than they get IMO. He!!, Butler had to win the conference tourney to get the auto bid!

It is tough recruiting at Penn State being a football school and not a very good one at that. Joe Pa rules the roost at that school even more so than the president. He made a good move going to Navy where he can have competitive teams year in and year out.

I really don't understand this at all. Had to be a quality of life thing or something. Penn St is without question the absolute bottom of the Big Ten in bball. They have never won the conf and are perrennial cellar dwellers. How many times have they been to NCAA since joining B10? Twice?
But have established that they suck why would you go to Navy? The academy has height and weight restrictions (David Robinson was 6'5" when he enrolled and grew 6 more inches) so they can never ever possible compete on a national level. Had to be personal reasons

Seems odd in these times for a coach to actually want to take a pay cut. BB9 probably has it right.

Maybe he's ex-Navy?

So ... WHO is replacing this guy, anyway?
