08:03 AM ET 05.25 | When Panthers players gather for informal workouts next week in Charlotte, the team's No. 1 draft pick plans to attend. Cam Newton, the Auburn quarterback taken first overall in last month's draft, will be among those participating in the workouts at Charlotte Christian, one of his agents said Tuesday. Newton has been training at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., with former Panthers quarterback Chris Weinke and Ken Dorsey, another ex-NFL quarterback who played under Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski at the University of Miami. Tony Paige, one of Newton's two representatives, said the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner is looking forward to getting on the field with his Carolina teammates for the first time.

good for him

The competition between him and Jimmy Pickles should be interesting to watch.

"Newton has been training at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., with ...Chris Weinke and Ken Dorsey..."

Nothing like learning from the legends of the game...

Indeed, no one ever said Newton was bright.

Can they stitch a question mark on Newton's jersey when he practices?

May 25, 2011  08:19 AM ET

Now, does attending have anything to do with partaking?

May 25, 2011  08:22 AM ET

His dad will be at the gate selling tickets.

His father is just going to bog down his career if he doesn't cut him loose.

Something tells me your nipples get hard on Newton threads... You offer no opinion on any thread ever, unless it's to bash Newton.

Would you cut your Father loose for a dollar?

I'm glad Newton sees the importance of working out regardless of the lockout. But yes, I have to wonder at his choice of football minds from which to gather tips for successful quarterbacking in the NFL. See Weinke, Chris and Dorsey, Ken under the heading- Memorable, NFL Careers that were not

I think his father is more interested in making money on his son's image rather than just supporting him in what he's doing for the sake of doing so.

He must've had more options. You know Jeff George was calling.

What the hell do you know/care about that man's Family so personally for, though?

He should go to Montana or Marino or Elway or some of the other great QBs for advice if he wants to be a really good QB.

So you would rather some greasy headed fast talking agent make money off him? You think they would love him instead of making money off him?

Cool, I'm in the market for a new sippy cup. Mommy ran mine through the dishwasher and it warped.

He's rested and ready.

He's showing a few houses this afternoon, but after that, he's ready to roll.

He doesn't have the time to squeeze in any more QBs. He wants to be an *entertainer*, so outside of Weinke and Dorsey, he's also being tutored by Justin Bieber, Jeff Dunham, Sinbad and Ronald McDonald.
