08:06 AM ET 05.25 | On Tuesday, Jerry Buss said the Lakers were "very close" to making a hire, and an evening report stands to confirm that case. The Lakers have put together a deal to hire former Cleveland Cavaliers coach Mike Brown as their new coach, an NBA official who was not authorized to speak publicly on the matter said late Tuesday. If Brown agrees to the deal, he'll sign a contract worth between $4 million and $4.5 million per season, the official said. Brown would sign for three years, with a team option on the fourth season that would give him partial pay if he was not retained. Brown, 41, became the front-runner because Jim Buss, the team's executive vice president of player personnel, was impressed with his defense-minded style.

Dam! Dam! Dam!

He should be coaching the Spurs.

Just reading the title, i was thinking that Larry Brown was making yet another comeback...

Good coach, just needs to toughen up a bit on controlling egos. Defense is his forte, this will be interesting. He did a good job, with what he had in Cleveland. He made some iffy decisions at times, but all in all, he's a pretty decent coach.

I still say Van Gundy should get the nod, with Rick Adelman coming in a close second. The only thing that I worry about with JVG is the effect it may have on them if they intend on pursuing Dwight Howard. I don't know if that would hurt their chances of landing him or not. Adelman is a quality coach who seems to get the most out of his players. I don't know that the locker room will buy into Mike Brown.

AWESOME!!!

The Bulls almost pulled it out last night. But...

Lebron is just too good. I think that charge was weak. It looked like a flop to me.

Anyways...

The Bulls put up a good fight in game 4, they made timely plays and they gave themselves a chance at the end. Well coached game by both coaches.

Drose is a baller. That cat could roll with my team any day.

Now as for Dwade, he needs to stop fooling around with Gabrielle before he comes to work. What is she doing to him? My man was completely out of rhythm from the jump. Missing wide open dunks and things. I know she is fine, but dam, let the man work will ya. :)

No way. That means Pop would be available for the Laker job and nobody wants Pop coaching in wine country!

Nobody but me.

As the saying goes. He doesn't have to go home, but he GOTS to get the HELL up out of here.

Funny thing. I was watching Varsity Blues last night. And it reminded me of Pop.

Kilmer was an old coach, who was stubborn and stuck on himself, the game had clearly passed him by, yet he wouldn't quit, until the varsity team stood up to him and forced him out.

That would never happen in S.A. because the Spurs are stand up guys, but dam, where is Dwill when you need em.

Feel bad for the Lakers. Brown couldn't control LeChoke, why would we believe he can control Kobe? Maybe Kobe listens better and is not a primadonna anymore unlike LeChoke....

Mornin' Guam-inator.

I was thinking that he will make them bring it on d......But in addition to some poor coaching decisions, he did allow lbj to walk all over him, which doesnt bode well for him with kobe.My other question is what system will he be running? The iso wont work with kobe as his age wont allow for a full season of wearI've killed brown, but maybe lbj was just uncoachable......

I'm not sure that Kobe would even TRY and walk all over him. He's not an entourage-type player, and his work ethic is second to none. I don't know that Kobe would buy into what he was selling, though. Mike Brown has little post-season success and that doesn't always bode well when you have a locker room full of guys with rings.

I always figured that Pop has the run of the house until someone has the cojones to kick him out. But, the owner is currently on a fishing trip.
