West becomes Warriors new trigger man

08:06 AM ET 05.25 | The Warriors rolled out the red carpet for Jerry West -- a fancy hotel, the owner, David Lee and cheerleaders. West, whom the Warriors introduced on Tuesday, clearly is more than just a consultant. He will not be a decision-maker, but he will have an impact on what goes on. "I see things a little bit different than they do and I will give my opinion," West said. "I do think there [are] changes that need to be made here, and I know they do in talking with them. I would encourage them to be a little more aggressive than they have been." ... Officially, West is a consultant on the basketball operations staff and he has a seat on Golden State's board of directors. Lacob said West also has an "economic interest" in the Warriors. Unofficially? West may be the new trigger finger.

Why, Jerry, why? Best case scenario is that you make the Warriors good and they take down the Lakers, which is where your legacy resides. Of course the more likely scenario is that you waste all that time you could have spent on the golf course trying unsuccessfully to rehab a moribund franchise.

West will help the Warriors become winners. This is some very refreshing news for this organization. Get it done West! Show them how to become winners.

This is just a PR move. If West isn't a part of the decision-making process, this doesn't mean a thing. He can suggest all he wants--that doesn't mean his opinion will matter to the person making the ultimate decision. This just gives the Warriors the chance to have a Hall of Famer in the front office.

I think the style of play and the teams mentality needs to change. It's not like they don't have some real talent on this team. They just seem to want to always outscore everyone and play no defense. I think a nice defensive minded coach and a GM that understands this change in philosophy would be a good start.

West a Laker forever, I can't tell everytime I turn around he is working for some other team trying to build a winner some where else. West you dissapoint Mr.Jerry West. You failed once well you just might fail again. you talked badly abouht the Lakers and now you are working for the warriors another losing team. you will never beat the Lakers with any team you put on the floor because we rule the West coast period and alway's get the best talent.

Just sayin...... west ain't a kid anymore and hasn't really done anything of major significance in years now

I don't know. Didn't West build Memphis, which just cracked into the playoffs?

Last 17 years the Warriors have had no direction. They have created a new culture of crap! It needs to go. Of course West is in the Warriors Camp to make decisions. P.R move? Give West some more creditability than that. It's a smart move to get West in before a coach. The right coach will help the players. Yes the Warriors team does not play defence and have 2 small guards. But a good coach can make this team work. It's a players game in the NBA now. Warriors need to go back to old school and have a strong coach and a leader to make the right decisions on top. Get rid of the players that don't try and stop making politics inside the club which has destroyed this team.
