08:37 AM ET 05.25 | Someday we may find out about what's ailing Ryan Kesler, but we now know the extent of Joe Thornton's injury. The Sharks captain confirmed after the series-ending loss that he played Game 5 of the Western Conference finals with a separated shoulder. "Obviously that's a very courageous game for him to play," Sharks coach Todd McLellan said. Thornton suffered the injury in the third period of Game 4, courtesy of a shoulder-to-shoulder body check from Canucks forward Raffi Torres. Thornton played one more shift in that game before sitting the rest of it out when it became clear he could barely hold his own stick. He reiterated numerous times at his media scrum after the morning skate Tuesday that he was 100 percent, he was ready to go.

I'm not a Thornton hater...but I am a hater of players that come out the minute the series is over and say 'yah, I was injured', as if the others weren't. IMO the best politic is to just disclose it while the series is going on so that the fans dont have unrealistic expectations of you. As it stands it just sounds like another in a long line of San Jose's excuses for not getting it done. I feel bad for their fans, because their franchise is the new Ottawa Senators.

I agree, excpt for the part about disclosing early...then some punk will target the injury. But I think shut up and play...at least till next season...then say you were hurt

How do you know he wasn't just answering a direct question from a reporter?

A guy by the name of Niklas Kronwall in Game 3 of the Detroit series. No big loss. They were mouse size stones to begin with.

Who is Thorton? Does anyone even watch this pathetic sport? Hockey is barely above soccer on the "Suck Scale"

They can't say it during the playoffs or some 4th liner will take a run at that exact part of the body. And if someone asks, is he going to lie about it. It's going to come out sooner or later, might as well get it out of the way.
Wonder if all the people who thought the Sens got fleeced on the Heatley deal still think that way. They might not have got back much in return, but at least they don't have a 7.5 mil a year player who is terrified of the big moments.

Although your post makes no sense (to put it kindly), your avatar is nice!

You sound exactly like the kind of juvenile who would love artificial ugly oversized tatas like in your avatar.

I'm guessing 14?

Does anyone else on here notice that Jim Hughson has a huge man-crush on the Sedins? Every time they touch the puck it sounds like he might blow his load.

Why don't you get down on your knees and get to work since you seem to know so much about the "Suck Scale."

Even though I was pulling for SJ, they are not high on my list of favourite teams.

But Joe and Marleau played well enough.

The guys who fumbled the ball were Heatley (obviously), Pavelski, Clowe, Coutoure, Setoguchi, etc.

I hadn't noticed that before.

Good catch...
