'Steelers Rule' irks Rooney

08:04 AM ET 05.26 | Testing the theory that all publicity is good publicity, we find the "Steelers rule." Another NFL rule, another named in honor of the Steelers, although the team president does not embrace the reference. For a team associated with the Rooney Rule, the Hines Ward Rule and rules aimed at neutering the 1970s Steel Curtain, add one that some members of the media have dubbed the "Steelers Rule." The rule, which really is not yet a rule, includes possible fines and the docking of draft choices if a team's players ring up enough infractions. And it was coupled with actual new rules passed by the league owners Tuesday that widened the description of illegal tackles the Steelers so loudly fought against last season. "I'm not sure I like it being referred to as the Steelers Rule," Art Rooney II said Wednesday.

Can we get a Fan Nation Rule that says interns have to write something coherent? Is this what our our school system is putting out now? No wonder the Chinese are eating our economy alive.

To be fair, the Chinese eat a lot of things alive.

The poor Steelers. I hope those six Super Bowl wins will make up for this.

The fines last year were ridiculous, if you are going to fine players, do it across the board. Goodell the Ginger Dictator has no soul.

With all of the concussion problems in the NFL, it's unreal that some of the Steelers think this is a personal attack on them, and not meant for the safety of the players around the league. This rule won't take away anything from the game....just will add hopefully some years added playing for some players who have had to end their careers short due to cheap hits.

"Some members of the media" have dubbed it the Steelers Rule ... "some members of the media" being loosely translated as "some putz at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette."
Posting this thread was a bigger waste of electricity than usual.

ha, well don't put a bunch of tools on the field (Hines Ward, Harrison, Rapistberger, Mendenhall...) and then you won't have all of these rules named after you!
