Sharks D-man: We were the better team

08:26 AM ET 05.26 | The Sharks vow to return in 2011-12 a hungrier lot. "The sting isn't going to lessen for a while," Joe Thornton said Wednesday morning of the 3-2 double-overtime loss to Vancouver the previous night that ended the Sharks' postseason run. "You're in the moment and fighting, and then something quirky happens; it's just done. Your season's over, and you feel so empty." After the game, Logan Couture tweeted a single word: "Heartbreak." And hours later, defenseman Ian White looked as if he still was processing the bitter, stunning conclusion to their postseason. "You'd like to think we got beat by a better team, but I don't believe we did," White said. "This is probably the biggest disappointment I've ever had in my career."

And that is saying something, because Ian White has had a LOT of disappointments in his career.
I appreciate that White is upset, but to say that the Sharks were the better team is completely unfair. Vancouver outscored San Jose 20-13 in the series, and their big guns stepped up when San Jose's stumbled somewhat.
Sad for the San Jose players and fans yes, but not an accurate reflection of the series by White.

Sharks D-man: We were the better team
Not from what I saw. I could understand his feelings if the series had gone 6-7 games.

No question the Sharks played hard- at times. They also took some real bonehead penalties at crucial times in the games that one could argue led directly to the losses.
As far as White's disappointments, I would have thought being stuck in the Leafs system not even making the playoffs would have weighed a little heavier.

Ah...the bitterness of defeat. Sorry Ian, you had a great run and your baby being born and all but this will be a growing experience for the Sharks...Everyone has to come out to play. The Couver's best player's won this series and too bad for the Sharks that they decided to show up in your series.

Growing experience?!? How many more of these lessons do the Sharks need before they actually "grow"? This is 2 years in a row losing in the Conference Final, and this go round they forgot to show up for the first 2 games. If they were going to gain some "fire" from losing at this stage they would have gained it from last year. Instead, they came up lame, again. I feel no pain for the Sharks at all - and I have no love for Vancouver. Even if they WERE the better team in the last game, throwing away the previous games with lacklustre efforts and stupid penalties is what sent them home, not one unlucky bounce in OT.

Next year tell Heatley to put up points in the playoffs and not just in the regular season, then maybe they can reach their potential.

Well it sure is tough when you get 50 shots or so and put in just one goal, while the other team only gets 13 but puts in 4 goals. As a d-man I can see where you're confused, being that giving up only 13 shots is good....but 4 goals on those shots is bad.

You'd think by now the Sharks players would be use to losing in the playoffs...and once again their stars were way too inconsistent or totally absent (Heatley). They remind me of the Senators a few years back...

I get a feeling that they have a sense of entitlement. Best regular season team of the past 5-6 years hands down...nothing brewing in the playoffs. The new Ottawa Senators.

In game 5 they were. I think that's what he was talking about.

And now they are the bitter team, just like every year.

But I'm pretty sure he was talking about Game 5 in which they were the better team. Which is why the loss stung so much.
They were really doing well until the missed non-icing. And they carried play in OT too.
They had an empty net for over a minute and couldn't get the 3rd goal they needed though.

Well, that probably just got him shipped again. The outcome was a question of depth - SJ came up shorter.
