08:12 AM ET 05.26 | The Giants are concerned that Buster Posey's injury is "significant" after a home plate collision with Scott Cousins. Here's what Cousins said about the play in the 12th inning when he tagged up to score on Emilio Bonifacio's sac fly. He plowed into Posey, who was helped off the field with a left ankle injury. "I felt like he was blocking the dish. It's the go-ahead run in the game. I've got to do whatever I can do to score. I know Schierholtz has an absolute cannon in the outfield." ... "I touched home. I knelt over him and was trying to see if he was all right because he's a great guy and he's a great player. I'm not trying to end anybody's season or anything like that. I was just trying to play hard and score the go-ahead run."

There is no place in baseball for this type of play. It should be like it is at all other levels of play. From Little League to NCAA baseball. The intentional crash is against the rules, It should be also in the majors.

Giants are in deep doo-doo now. With Posey joining Fontenot (strained groin) and Ford (sprained knee), Giants don't have a lot in minors to replace these positions--catcher, shortstop and an outfielder with speed. Huff, Burrell, Tejada not hitting in an already anemic offense, watch this team head straight into the outhouse. You can have all the great pitching in the world, but if you can't score any runs, it just so much "Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."

Posey was about the only guy in that lineup that you were afraid of. That's a huge kick in the shins for them.

I played when running over the catcher was perfectly legal in Little League. If the catcher blocks the plate, you slam him into the backstop.

Catcher's put the gear on knowing and expecting these types of plays to happen. The runner knows that the catcher is going to block the plate. It's good hard play and it's a bummer when somebody gets hurt but that is baseball. If we proceed to woosify our sports then they become rather a waste of time.

The rule should be changed to require all runners attempting to score on a close play to slide into home plate... either foot first or head first.... period.

I think it was a clean play at the plate, both players did what any other player would have done in that situation, unless the player happens to be manny ramirez. There's a reason you break your finngers when you dive head first into home dummy.

pontiff & donald. Too bad you don't know the game!!!The catchers job, is to block the plate. the runners job is to get "through the catcher and score the run. also, the intentional crash is NOT in the rules. I suppose you both never won a title. I suspect you probably both played T-ball. some tomes in sports, you get hurt. you should both stick to "girls" soccer teams.
