Onyewu returning to AC Milan

09:07 AM ET 05.28 | Oguchi Onyewu's time in the Netherlands has come to an end, as Twente has opted not to make his loan move from AC Milan permanent, and the defender will now return to Italy. The former Newcastle and Standard Liege stopper will find it difficult to break into the Milan squad, with new defensive additions Taye Taiwo and Phillippe Mexes increasing the competition for places.

That move to AC Milan was probably one of the worst career moves a USMNT player has made in recent memory. Certainly he is making plenty of dough, but the lack of playing time has just completely stalled his development as a player.

In a word: FUGAZI!

I liked the move at the time because he was developing to that level. Besides that, Milan knew they had him cheap and could loan him out if need be.

The fact that he got hurt, had a hard time recovering and now is not even wanted by Twente just shows that Milan will want nothing to do with him.

Which is fine- since they can still loan him out.

Where he made an idiotic move was offering up to play a year for "free."

That was really, really stupid.

Very interesting response from Garber in regards to how MLS will expand beyond Montreal next year...

Q: Next year MLS will welcome a team in Montreal, which is the league???s 19th club. You have publicly said you support growth. What markets appear best for growth?

Garber: We are focused on New York. It???s a big market. The Cosmos have a great legacy and they have a great soccer history that so far the Red Bulls have not been able to tap into. For the most part Red Bulls fans come from New Jersey. The challenge for [the Cosmos] is to build a stadium, and as we all know New York City is not the easiest place to build. And we???ve put a high price on the 20th team. In 2007 we were asking around $7 million, and last year [teams] sold for $40 million. This could be in the $75 to $100 million [range].

$75MM-$100MM just for the rights of a franchise, plus the fact that MLS only wants franchises that have viable stadium operations and set ups...

The Cosmos are going to have to drop massive coin just to get started.

Which makes Beckham's deal, specifically getting a pre-arranged franchise fee such a huge long-term move for the man.

With that being said- I can see him wanting to buy into a franchise at a discount and save even more money by going to a market that already has a built stadium or a place where one can be built cheaply.

New York is not going to be that place.

So...

Huge game that promises to bring about the best of the game on a massive scale.

What's everyones predictions for the big match up today?

I've got Fire 2 - San Jose 0

Arguably the two biggest names in world club soccer at the moment...

Wow. Spitball math says 3 mil salary cap per team (sorry, don't know the actual # offhand, but I'm 99% sure its lower than that) x 19 teams ~ 57 mil. That means the next poor schmuck that buys a team is paying the salaries for the ENTIRE league for the next year and a half or so..

Where to I sign up to pay my opponents salary?

Love the homerism. Fire will have a hard time keeping a streaking SJ off the board. I see a 2-1 win for the Earthquakes. Sorry, no personal ties to either team, just a prediction.

...are there any other games on today?

I think the WPS has a game or two on.

But Unknown- we just drew with San Jose in USOC Qualification play on Tuesday and moved on after hitting 5/6 penalty kicks after extra time (while San Jose hit the cross bar twice)...

You mean Fannation covers something OTHER than the MLS, Liga BBVA or the EPL?

Just stirring the pot friend, just stirring the pot...

So what you're saying is that the Fire are improving with each passing week?

I want United to win for Park.

I want Barca to win for Abidal.

Other than that, I'm just looking forward to hopefully an awesome match.

Lest they be accused of only caring about the leagues which truly matter...

Bad grammar on my part. I guess that should have read: "So what you're saying is that the Fire is improving with each passing week".

Slow, tepid baby steps.

Pretty soon we'll be knocking on the door of the Scottish 2nd Division.

We are godawfullfukall bad at everything this year.

I just watched bootleg highlights of that "win" over San Jose in the US Open Cup Qualifyer from Tuesday and man was that bad soccer from both sides...

I wish I weren't Fire 'til I die.

May 28, 2011  01:00 PM ET

What's everyone's predictions?

I'm having a hard time calling it. My head says Barca, but for some reason I just feel that today is going to go United's way...

I'll call it Manchester 2 - Barcelona 2 with PKs going 7/6 in favor of United.

Does that mean you are going to be breaking more legs? That will attract more Mexican fans at least.

I am hoping for a 3-2 score with a nail at the end of regulation... Don't really care who wins though...

Or he's just trying to keep the Wilpons away and would actually be willing to accept something much closer to the reported $40mm which Portland paid...
