Jets quarterback on way out?

Chad Pennington sounded very much Wednesday like a player who knows his days in New York are numbered. Discussing his cloudy future, the Jets' deposed starter said there will be "all kinds of different scenarios and different avenues I'll have to look at" in the offseason, hinting that he intends to have a big say in the matter. Technically, he can't pull an A-Rod, opting out, but Pennington could request a trade or his release. Pennington also stopped short of saying he'd like to return to the Jets if promised the starting job in 2008. Twice he was asked the question, and twice he responded with a generic answer.

he'll find another job, too many teams need qbs. falcons, vikings, bears for example.

November 29, 2007  07:55 AM ET

Maybe he should go to the Vikings.Play indoors for 9 games a season.

November 29, 2007  08:18 AM ET

He will definitely be gone. no fixing the bridges burned by the team and him..He may do quite well in the right system, I would expect him to.

I'm glad you clarified what you were trying to say. Before your follow up post I was wondering why FanNation was replacing the word "Swallowed" with "****".

LOL and true Hortag.

November 29, 2007  08:42 AM ET

just 5 more AL.

Anyway, Chad isn't a horrible QB. Too many coaches out there are trying to shoe horn their idea of a "Perfect" Offense or Defense down the throats of their teams. Thats especially true where new coaches are just inheriting a team.

The reason teams like the Pats are regularly so strong, is because they play to their strengths and draft players accordingly. Good coaches comming into new teams who want to exceed immediately, need to tailer their coaching to the talen they have.

Take a look at the Vikings for example. Childress, who is the coaching spawn of Andy Reid, wanted to turn the big purple into a modified West Coast team. But he hadn't really started to win, until he started to run more and really capitalize on his outstanding RB's and his highly paid OG Steve Hutchinson.

Chad Pennington isn't a stretch the field type Iron Man. He's a smart QB, with a noodle for an arm, who is good with short and mid range passes. If he's not asked to rely on physical prowess, or on gun slinging, he will do great. Chad just isn't a guy for a team looking to develop a fast paced, stretch the field QB.

Maybe Mangini should be the one to go.
Nothing would make me happier than to see him out.
Im not so sure Pennington is the Jets biggest problem.

November 29, 2007  09:11 AM ET

Chad wasn't the Jets biggest problem by a long shot. They have way more going on there then just the QB. I think Chad deserves a chance to play somewhere else where he is appreciated. He still has some game left in him before he starts coaching. It's too early for him to start riding the bench.

Don't cry for Chad. He'll find a landing place somewhere. Maybe he'll reunite with Herm in Kansas City.

November 29, 2007  09:44 AM ET

Chad will find a better team and coach to play for next year.. He is probably in the top15 QB's out there... Not alot of good QB's in the NFL right now.. The Jets problems are with Manidiot more than the players!

November 29, 2007  10:35 AM ET

Ha ha ha... that was a good one Hortag... I'm sorry to say I had the exact same thought.

November 29, 2007  10:36 AM ET

I disgust myself sometimes... can't get my mind out of the gutter for 5 minutes as my ex would say.

I would like for this guy to go to the 49ers and I am losing faith in Alex Smith. Well, I agree with you guys that many teams do need QBs.

Pennington will find a new home next year but it cant be for a coach who likes the deep ball but every once in a while he can throw a nice one down there but other than that its his accuracy that landed him in the NFL.
