09:10 AM ET 05.29 | If the lockout drags on, the NFL has a built-in mechanism to delay the start of the season until what is now scheduled to be the fourth week and still play 16 games and a full postseason. The week off between the conference championship game and the Super Bowl will be eliminated. Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis will be pushed back from Feb. 5 to Feb. 12.

Lockout or no lockout, I wish the NFL would eliminate that extra week between the championship games and the Super Bowl.

I agree one hundred percent. It's too long to wait. The anticipation kills me.

They've done that a few times. I don't mind the extra week. I worry more about ESPN starting the pre-game show in Saturday.

cancel the season..... this sh** is sad. they are all rich and are fighting to become even more wealthy. it would be good for all if they did not play next season... if everyone loses. now, it would be hard not watching games sunday afternoon this fall, but at some point these guys should be able to agree on some terms and get things underway or just call it.

If they eliminate the week off, whatever will they do with the Pro-Bowl? That's the important question all NFL fans are asking. It's such a riveting game; it's almost as good as the Superbowl!

Move it back to the week after the Numeral One. Not having the players from the Super Bowl-playing team makes no sense.

Then again, the Pro Bowl makes no sense either....

I think they should keep that week off before the SB, usually both teams are beat up by that time and the extra week gives some players time to heal up. Can't imagine how beat up the teams will be after 18 games and possibly another playoff game.

Why is there a Super Bowl in Indianapolis? That's like having Mardi Gras in Pittsburgh

May 29, 2011  11:58 AM ET

The owners think they can play 18 games with no problem, so 16 should be easy for them to cash in on.

New dome stadium. The league tends to reward teams that can pull that off these days, regardless of location.
