Ponder already thinking 'second contract'

08:01 AM ET 05.30 | Christian Ponder has heard the critics -- that he was a reach, that he lacked accuracy, that his mechanics were off, that he wilted under pressure -- but the Vikings, quite obviously, didn't agree with that chorus. Ponder impressed the Vikings during a two-day workout/interview in Tallahassee, Fla., and they ended up drafting him 12th overall. Now he has to wait for the NFL lockout to end before signing a contract, one that could be greatly influenced if a rookie wage scale is instituted. "I'm more concerned about the second contract," he said. "That means you're playing well over time."

I still think it was a reach. I would have taken Mallett over him.

Agreed. Mallett has accuracy and velocity. He throws the deep out with authority and his throw to the corner of the end zone is spot on as well.

Ryan Mallett = Matt Cassel with potential

Almost all NFL first round draft picks are overconfident. Many fail to live up to expectations.

I think Mallet would have given Viking fans something to get excited about.

Julius Peppers and Atari Bigby are certainly going to have fun then - LOL

Yes, Ponder cannot throw a deep ball with velocity and accuracy.

Actually it looks like he can.

So you do not like your quarterbacks to think too far ahead? He said he is thinking about the second contract because a second contract would mean he is playing well. Nowhere does that imply arrogance such as your rebuke implies, but instead it shows intelligence and a proper mental approach to the game.

Hey now, who do you think you are putting a reasonable, well thought out comment on this forum?
