Pitts: Players in fight for long haul

08:03 AM ET 05.30 | Chester Pitts didn't much care for Kurt Warner's take -- that players would eventually "have to" give in. In a wide-ranging interview, Pitts touched on a number of subjects and was, well, uniquely Pitts. ... On what Pitts thinks the fight is all about: "If corporate America can crush thousands of professional athletes, what chance does an average employee have?" Then Pitts delivered this. You need to pay special attention, because his words, I think, represent the mindset of many NFL players: "Most players are approaching this fight with the long term in mind," Pitts said. "This is a marathon, not a sprint. Most players feel this way."

Oh please! Overpaid undereducated jocks have no idea what the average corporate employee has given up over the last 10 years. Stop comparing yourselves to the average employee - you have no clue and you are NOT leading anyone's fight but your own selfish one.

Someone should remind them of the professional Baseball strike back in the day. where both sides pissed off the fans so much, when they did start playing the fans didn't show for they're games!

Oh, good. Another Steelers thread for the "Bend over for Ben" crowd to camp in.

I mean "Pitt = Pittsburgh" to them, right? LOL.

Sorry, Bro - that one just doesn't resonate with the proletariat.

Nice try, though.

I've been following college football news a lot more heavily this off-season, just in case all we get next year is NCAA football.

I think you miss the point. The average american chump is too easily scared because they don't have the resources to take on the long haul. "If you don't relinquish X, then WE'RE LEAVING TOWN!!!" -or- "If you want your job, take this cut or WE'LL GO BELLY UP!!!" Add into this an economy that's fully tanked, outsourcing, the trend towards temp labor, the common jerk is scared sh*tless and gives in. His point is if these rich guys (he sides with you that he and other players are well resourced) cannot take on the man for the long haul then who really can? And I agree with him. If these guys don't have the heart, don't have the stamina, who really does? And with that I say give 'em h#ll. I'm tired of people being scared into bs concessions to the mega rich. The years of union bashing is winning for the rich guy, and losing for the chumps. Hence the middle class dissolving. It just bugs the sh#t out of me to see so many not really know where their interests lay and buy into this crap that the rich really aren't rich enough yet.

Don't put yourself in the same ship as the common worker Pitts. I've never seen a NFL player back other union workers when they were going through labor contract negotiations. Don't try and play the sympathy card with the general public. The only ones that destroyed the players union were the players with their outlandish demands.

To all players and owners: If you do not work something out by 7/15/2011 then I will not watch or read anything concerning the NFL this season and possibly never again. This is how the general public should protest, after all everything that has to do with players/owners inflated salaries is in some way paid for by the public whether they are a fan or not.

The NFL is entertainment for some people. Entertainment and entertainers can be changed without any major disruption to the economy. Ask Charlie Sheen, he tried to play the sympathy card to his loyal fans in hopes of getting his $2 million per episode job back and told everyone he was indispensable, yet now the producers are planning on using Ashton Kucher to replace him, the NFL must understand they are in the same boat as Charlie and can be replaced . Maybe professional rugby or lacrosse will emerge as the NFL wallows in self pity.

May 30, 2011  10:56 AM ET

Until the American Public stands up and says "I'm mad as h*ll and won't take it anymore" they will continue to be abused by the people that market the products. I have heard many a person complain about products made in China or jobs sent to foreign countries yet when those products show up on Walmart shelves the American public sucks it all up. Americans are the abused addicted battered wife that keeps coming back for more.
