SEC ready to provide stipends?

08:16 AM ET 05.31 | Oversigning won't be the only hot-button topic at this edition of the SEC meetings, where "full cost" scholarships will also reportedly be addressed. The issue: Administrators will discuss providing student-athletes with a "cost of attendance" scholarship rather than an academic scholarship. A school would be allowed to provide a stipend for "incidental expenses" beyond room, board, books and meals, as has always been the custom. It is a proposal that has been on the books for many years but always tabled due to prohibitive costs for smaller programs. But SEC Commissioner Mike Slive and Big Ten Commissioner Jim Delaney, flush with money from TV deals, seem to believe it's time for "the haves" to take care of their own. Comment: Probably still years from happening.

All joking aside, I think the cost of attendance stuff is a very good idea.

He!!, just pay them minimum wage for all the hours they put in! That would not be out of line and might be enough to cover some of the items being discussed.

The kids could just sell this stuff like our excellent online store friends and make all the money they need.
They'd be set for life if they could sell a shipment of facelift bars to their friends.

And maybe the Big 10 should have been worrying about extra benefits instead of oversigning. :)

Pretty much why I think it probably will never happen. But, that's just me. I never thought USC would be punished.
