Pelini pulled into Buckeyes rumor mill

08:17 AM ET 05.31 | It didn't take long for the speculative spotlight to find Lincoln. Within hours of news that embattled Ohio State head coach Jim Tressel had resigned from his job Monday, college football pundits had begun to erect a list of potential successors. Current Nebraska head coach -- and former Buckeye free safety -- Bo Pelini was a prominent name on them. ... In April, athletic director Tom Osborne signed Pelini to a new five-year deal, boosting his base salary to $2.775 million for 2011. Including performance incentives, his haul could easily top $3 million this year. ... The hefty salary alone makes it hard for a team to court Pelini. But should one choose to pursue him anyway, Pelini's $250,000 buyout penalty for leaving is small compared to some other high-profile coaches.

This would shock me but at the same time lets get the season behind us before we throw Fickell under the bus.

Exactly... guy goes 10-2 or 11-1 and maybe all of this is moot.

Oh god, this is going to annoy me so bad. "Hey, bring out the dartboard, we need to come up with at least fifty possible names for the tOSU vacancy!"

OSU will still win the Big 10. I think the interim will remain through this coming season and a decision will happen next year. Way too late in the game to assemble a completely new staff. Just my thoughts.

Bad few days for Ohio. Tressel goes down in flames and Lebron playing in the finals tonight.

He was competitive year in and year out in a state with a total population of like 5,000 or something.

Now that's funny.

QUOTE(#11):

If 2011 starts out like 2010, you may see wholesale changes mid-season in Austin. Not a lot of patience in reserve there.

But this would be with the head coach on down in Ohio. Mack will be there mid season.

I read where the Big 10 lost a lot of talent this past year and should be down so Ohio State should still win the conference.

Nine wins and a top 10 recruiting class for 2012 and the guy prob'ly loses the "interim" designation. But just winning with Vest's guys won't be enough. He has to show he can recruit, too.And Pelini at a school with a top notch recruiting pool scares me. He was competitive year in and year out in a state with a total population of like 5,000 or something.

Is it all that hard to recruit tOSU? For a lot of midwestern kids I assume pretty much all you have to do is show up at the kid's doorstep and say "hi".

Btw, I am wearing this avi until they fall out of first, then it is likely to go to a tatoo image of the Ohio St logo.
