Spurrier spotted on Duke campus

South Carolina football coach Steve Spurrier was in town and visited with Duke athletic director Joe Alleva on Wednesday afternoon. Spurrier was seen shaking hands with Alleva outside of Cameron Indoor Stadium. Spurrier's old job, coaching football at Duke, is open, but it's highly unlikely the "Head Ball Coach" was chatting with his good friend about taking the job. Alleva had said Monday during a news conference to announce Ted Roof's firing that Spurrier would be one of the first people he would call to ask his opinion on where Duke should look for its next football coach.

Look high and low cuz they suck!

November 29, 2007  08:41 AM ET

Wow...Spurrier over in that week conference? Look out!

If Miles leaves Spurrier is coming to LSU. Book it.

November 29, 2007  09:05 AM ET

This would be awesome. Please let it happen.

November 29, 2007  09:39 AM ET

He's just consulting. Steve should recommend Nix for the job. It would be a nice gesture on his part, and someone needs to hire an African-American coach this off season.

November 29, 2007  09:40 AM ET

Besides Nebraska, I guess.

November 29, 2007  10:16 AM ET

Maybe Jay Bilas will be interested...since he KNOWS all.....dumbass

November 29, 2007  10:35 AM ET

...and he would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for those meddling reporters...

November 29, 2007  10:41 AM ET

Spurrier at LSU would be classic...

November 29, 2007  10:43 AM ET

^^

Oh yeah....I've been wishing that for years.

November 29, 2007  10:59 AM ET

Why don't they just hire Coach Shechefksi.....he **** gold

November 29, 2007  11:11 AM ET

He will never go to a losing program with no future.. he is not that great.

November 29, 2007  11:54 AM ET

Only I possess the talent to go to a losing program

November 29, 2007  12:06 PM ET

Spurrier said I have no clue where you need to start maybe with Bill Cower that's who I'd call anyway

November 29, 2007  04:20 PM ET

Duke needs someone who's young and ready to BUILD a program. That's the kind of program that can afford to hire an unknown 30 or early 40 something kinda guy.

November 29, 2007  06:35 PM ET

Steve Spurrier is going anywhere! Its not like there is a game for Spurrier to prepare for this week. I have heard rumers that Spurrier's son may get some sort of coaching job there! This has been blown way out of porportion!

November 29, 2007  07:01 PM ET

he is "the old ball coach".... what loser wrote this ?

November 29, 2007  07:09 PM ET

this whole moving from school to school is a bunch of crap
some coaches these days show no alligiance to their team
greeat coaches and schools keep what they got and work with it.
Mack Brown, Bob Stoops, Lloyd Carr, Jim Tressel are great.
les Miles, Spurrier, and saban all ned to pick a team

November 29, 2007  08:06 PM ET

OK - Spurrier can retire in Baton Rouge!

After UNC snatched Butch last year Duke needs a big name guy with patience. They are 1-23 the last 2 years, and have had virtually te same lineup both years. They are a little more mature, but still need direction. and they need to learn how to win close games. they have lost 7 games by 10 or less the last 2 years
