08:14 AM ET 06.01 | Though it's not always a strong play to admit a weakness, Washington may find it necessary to build a more competitive roster. The Nationals are looking to trade for a center fielder and a leadoff hitter, according to a baseball source, who also said the club is willing to overpay to get players at those specific positions. Some members in the organization don't think Roger Bernadina is a center fielder. They feel he belongs in one of the corner spots. Bernadina has been getting most of the playing time in center field lately. Rick Ankiel, the team's other center fielder, has not been productive, hitting .214, with a homer and seven RBIs.

Again?

Yesterday they weren't going to get low balled for an older catcher and today they will over pay for help. What are these writers smoking?

I think someone accidentally posted this about 7 1/2 months late...

I think Dan Uggla can play outfield. Can we just give him to you?

Some members in the organization don't think Roger Bernadina is a center fielder.

Considering his career .664 OPS, most people outside the organization don't think Roger Bernadina is a major league baseball player.

Perfect. Rick Ankiel and his paltry .214 batting average need to make way for Benadina has his scortching .244 batting average.

Just trade Pudge...

I thought Werth took care of their overpaying? Good to know they have more failures up their sleeve.

I suggest trading J.D. Drew to them for Bryce Harper.

Although I think they plan to keep Harper in the minors for the year, who knows?

If you're going to "overpay" for somebody, shouldn't you at least try to reserve that move for when you're actually close to being on top? Why the urgency in other words?

Time to bring back Nyjer Morgan!!!!!!!

Can probably get him on the Cheap.

Yeah, Bernadina's 27. If it's going to happen for him (and that's what the Nats are hoping for) there should be a progression forward this year. That has not happened. Ankiel is an excellent defensive player with a big arm, who can occasionally hit. Like with the Braves last year, he's a guy who you go to when there is nobody else available since, at least, he'll help you in the field

No ****. The Cards knew that when they got rid of him. Dont bother overreaching for an OF when u arent making the playoffs. Save that $ for Strasburg & Harper when they reach arbitration.
