06:35 AM ET 11.29 | A top police official in Miami said Wednesday that the evidence collected so far in the investigation of Sean Taylor's death suggested he was not a premeditated target of his killer. Robert Parker, director of the Miami-Dade County Police Department, appeared to play down a theory that the attack was related to a dispute between Taylor and a group of men in southern Miami-Dade County in 2005 that resulted in felony assault and battery charges against Taylor.

This has to be posturing, I hope.

To all - Go read Jason Witlock's column on Fox Sports, amazing article, the guy really has the stones to tell it like it is.

November 29, 2007  07:47 AM ET

Jason Witlock sure hit the nail on the head.

November 29, 2007  08:17 AM ET

that was a very good article by Witlock. heard Antrel Rolle on the news this morning saying that he definitely thought Taylor was targeted........will be interesting to see what develops over the next few days.

Great article by Jason Witlock. I think its worth pointing out, that the only reason he could get away with saying something so true, and quite frankly, so inflammatory, is because he himself is black. Had this been a white columnist writing the same thing, you could be sure throngs of racism accusations would have been made by now.

Unfortunately, for the black culture in general, Jason Witlock will simply dismiss his message and the "Afro-American" legacy of black on black crime, as a big white conspiracy.

It seems that not even talent, a big NFL paycheck, and a nifty uniform can shield a footballer from living or dying "black".

November 29, 2007  08:32 AM ET

Correction, I meant to say that the black community will dismiss Jason Witlocks message and the "Afro-American" legacy of black on black crime, as a big white conspiracy.

November 29, 2007  08:35 AM ET

I think Witlock is going to catch a ton of heat for that regardless of the color of his skin. I can hear Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton coming after him already. I'm just glad somebody has the guts to write about the real issues.

November 29, 2007  08:37 AM ET

Amazing at how soon after this killing that the police can believe that it was just a random act. You see, it puts the police in a much tougher situation if it is determined that this was a hit. The public would have a stronger yearning for the hit-man to be caught. So....it's an easy out to say "well, this was probably just a random act of violence."

November 29, 2007  08:48 AM ET

Please don't denigrate the name and memory of Sean Taylor by bringing Al Sharpton into this mess.
The whole thing and the way it went down just gives me chills.

November 29, 2007  08:49 AM ET

No way it was a hit. If someone gonna make a hit, they make sure their victim is dead. They aren't gonna shoot you in the leg one time. They are gonna shoot you, walk up to you when you're down and put a few rounds in your skull for good measure. Probably wouldn't have left his GF alive either.

WHOA...Jason Whitlock just became public enemy number 1in the hood.

JCMD
Not if was meant as a warning.
I prefer however to think that this was just another senseless case of random violence. I refuse to think otherwise until facts prove differently.

November 29, 2007  09:20 AM ET

JCMD and Kp...its a hit but not in the tradition way you're thinking. Rolle said a lot of people are jealous of what he has accomplished. What's the way you can take a fast hard hitting safety out of the game? Shoot him in the leg so he cant recover that speed and power. I dont think they were trying to kill him, just make it where he cant play football, it just went terribly wrong. I know it's a horrible way to think but you have to remember where he came from. (I dont mean any disrespect to anyone from that area)

Do phone lines get cut randomly too?

November 29, 2007  09:22 AM ET

I concur with KpKahder and JustCallMeDaddy

A hit doesn't involve a leg shot. It involves a headshot, and then a couple of chest pumps while the "Vic" is on the floor. No body who really wanted to kill you, would shoot you in the leg, unless the assailant wanted you to really suffer, and had intimate knowledge of the human vascular system. And then, with a handgun..would have to had intentionally aimed at the Common Femoral Artery.

Look at Taylors house on Google Maps. Worst possible location for a random burglary, twice. There is no street parking in the area, and unless you want to park in someone's driveway, you'll definitely be noticed. I'm sure whoever did this did not do it on foot. I tend to believe the comments by Rolle make more sense.

We do not know who killed Sean Taylor. As a Redskins fan, I am saddened by this young man's death. Let the police and other law enforcement officers deal with this matter. I know that Sean's previous tanglements with the law may be a small part of this tragedy, however, a 24 year old young man has died. Let us not speculate as to why. His family and his team needs to grieve. Thank you.
