08:33 AM ET 06.06 | Donald Brashear may have found a career beyond the rink. Brashear showed he hasn't lost his punching power, winning his mixed martial arts debut in quick fashion. Brashear needed just 21 seconds to knock out Mathieu Bergeron of Sherbrooke, Que., during the Ringside MMA event Saturday in Quebec City. The 39-year-old floored Bergeron with a right hook just after the opening bell then finished him off with a series of hammer fists. In 1,025 career games with five NHL teams, Brashear had 85 goals and 2,634 penalty minutes.

I know it sounds funny but I feel sort of sorry for Donald. He's had a tough time in his personal life and became sort of a caricature of himself in hockey. I just hope he stays healthy and winds up with an more decent future, whatever that may be.

Just think of the years he's wasted trying to be something he wasn't!

Oh, well. At least he was lucky to find someone dumb enough to pay him big bucks to pretend he was a hockey player!

More decent? Pretty sure he's a millionaire as a result of the role he played in the NHL. I won't be doing any sorry-feeling for him.

He was handed a tomato-can to knock out because his name was one of the keys to promoting this fight night. No real threat for him, but its good he won so convincingly.

I just wonder how he did it without tieing the guy up and spinning around with him until the ref sent them to the box. Most Boring Enforcer Ever.

We now interrupt this scintillating story for a word from our sponsors...

Brashear and Laracque, a study in contrasts:

Laracque: retired from hockey, does campaigns for vegan living & against animal cruelty, member + activitst for the Green Party. Usually seen at the park cuddling small, furry animals.

Brashear: retired from hockey with millions of dollars in the bank, participates in cage-fighting for gas money/cab fare.

Does he have millions in the bank? I really don't know. I know he made millions over the years. But if he still has the money to live well, I'm surprised he's involved in MMA.

MMA is a brutal sport! Almost as violent as hockey. ;)

I was going to say...

And you know he'll need a stick upside the head to make him fight you a 3rd time.

June 6, 2011  12:53 PM ET

if he wants to win his 2nd set him up with Kimbo Slice

June 6, 2011  01:34 PM ET

This continues Brashear's perfect record. I never saw him lose a fight, at least not in his Vancouver prime. And he could play back in those years. The most underrated enforcer in history.
