Orton could be had for a second-rounder

08:06 AM ET 06.07 | Denver is one of more than a dozen teams that will enter the season with a quarterback controversy. Kyle Orton will start for the Broncos, start for another team or become a backup somewhere else. ... After Kevin Kolb, Orton appears to be the most alluring quarterback on the block ... Since he has one year left on his contract at $8.5 million, teams consider Orton (A) serviceable until they develop a rookie, (B) a dependable upgrade, (C) a prolific passer who was with a lousy running game and a miserable defense, (D) a one-season bargain. Orton could be had for a second-round draft choice or the right player (a starting defensive tackle), or the Broncos might be willing to let him go for a conditional selection or two.

Broncos, who cares.

Letting Orton go would put all those eggs in a pretty unproven basket. Of course, you could argue that the Orton Years haven't been very good, either.

One thing, though. If they start Tebow, maybe we could get a different picture. Better, maybe, maybe not, but at least different.

Second rounder, eh?

June 7, 2011  08:27 AM ET

Not sure I totally buy this one. There really is no one to fall back on. Elway has no faith in Tebow. How would a second rounder improve this situation.

BTW, what happened to Brady Quinn?

Seems fair to me.

Wonder would they take McNabb for him, straight up.

Wow, the Broncos sound like they're going to be a mess this season. Oh, never mind, there isn't going to be a season. Rest easy, Denver.

Bro, your avatar is straight.

I don't think any team is willing to gamble on McNabb after his debacle in DC.

Reason 2 why they can't trade Orton.

So his Subway commercial didn't have the desired effect?

Great that **** Tebow pic again!

Orton Hears A Two.

Now he's done.

Don't they have a pic of Orton????

Nope, just Tebow, Elway playing golf and an old one of Elvis before he left the building.

The Josh McDaniels pictures have been retired, I would suspect.

I would think the Cardinals would trade a second rounder for him in a heartbeat.
