Magic eyeing Ellis

08:06 AM ET 06.09 | Monta Ellis may not be ticketed for Philadelphia, after all. The Orlando Magic are one of a handful of teams who've spoken to the Golden State Warriors about acquiring Ellis, the San Francisco Chronicle reports. Based on comments from new team consultant Jerry West last week, it appears the Warriors are looking to split up the guard duo of Ellis and Stephen Curry, who aren't a very good complement because they're both undersized and both like the ball in their hands. That puts Ellis, a 25-year-old who averaged 24.1 points last season, on the trading block, and he's receiving plenty of interest. ... The league's hottest rumor involves Ellis being traded to Philadelphia for Andre Iguodala straight up.

What are they going to give up to get him again?

Heck, The question isn't who you give up - it's who you keep. If Otis is intent on not playing any defense he can do that with or without Ellis. The Magic need a power forward and a point guard - not another free shooter who can't defend. Howard, Hedo, Redick, Andersen, maybe Richardson - everybody else can kick.

The difference between Ellis and all those guys you named is that he can get his OWN shot and actually score...Those other guys are just either spot up shooters or role guys...
Also I thought Anderson and Bass did a nice job at the 4 for the magic....

i don't know if GSW won't allow it but i think curry is a better fit for magic than ellis. curry (i think) is a more willing passer. magic need a true point guard. ellis would just be a slight upgrade to nelson.

The deal nobody's talking about, but could happen, is Jason Terry for Andre Iguodala. Dallas could throw in a 1st rounder as well, or Ian Mahimi, to even things out, if Philadelphia balks. This would enable Dallas to start Iguodala at the 2, Butler at the 3, and bring Marion and Stevenson off the bench, giving them a lot more depth. Philadelphia has Evan Turner ready to start, but he'll need a solid backup for a while - cue Jason Terry as a gunning sixth man.
Of course, if Dallas wins the Finals, this would be really bold, but Terry's getting up in years, and may decline rapidly playing 30-35 minutes a night. With Philly, he'd play more like 20-25, and still provide 12-14 a night while backing Turner. Iguodala is 27 and in his prime - and does his best with a strong team surrounding him, which Dallas can provide.

This would be another asinine move my the Magic. Smart money says they would look to trade Richardson. It really doesn't make much sense to try to play Ellis at the point. I don't buy into the 'too small' argument. How big were Isiah and Dumars? Their opponents have as much of a problem guarding them as they do their opponents. How many other guard combinations average 45 points a night?
