Amaro won't send Manuel help this time

08:12 AM ET 06.09 | Charlie Manuel's simmering over his players' lack of discipline at the plate stands in contrast to the cooler head of Philadelphia GM Ruben Amaro. The Phils entered Wednesday night having scored three or fewer runs in 34 of 61 games. In their previous six games, they had just seven extra-base hits and zero home runs while averaging 2.8 runs. All this led Manuel to say that if the offense didn't improve in the next month, the Phils might have to make some decisions about personnel. ... Over the past couple of seasons, he has flat-out said that the Phils needed to add a top starting pitcher, and both years he got one in Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt. He shouldn't hold his breath if he's looking for a difference-making bat to drop from the sky. "You will not see a major move this year," Amaro said Wednesday.

It's quite clear that the Phillies were the biggest roiding team in baseball.

Cliff Lee... LOLThe Giants have 5 starters with an ERA lower than Lee.... (Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner, Sanchez, and Vogelsong)

And the Phillies have a better record, and they actually play in a division with major league baseball teams.

The Phills only have 4 more HR than the Giants. That's pretty sad, considering where they play and the 'sluggers' they have.

What "sluggers"? Howard? OK, that's one.

Utley's still in spring training... OK, that's 2...

... ... ... ...

The biggest problem the Phillies have is not being able to adapt to play small ball. They're not gonna win a lot of games in blow-out ways this year. When Howard gets up with a runner on, he needs to lay down a push-bunt up the third base line. Rollins needs to look at more pitches, and actually play the part of a lead-off man and get on base.

But ya know what... It's quite alright, because even as **** as their offense has been, they've still been at the top of the division, the NL and the majors just about all season.

And there they shall remain.

I was happy when the phillies brought back cliff lee, but he is currently not living up to my expectations. I expected a pitcher to be in the talk for the cy young. But he is currently having a season that would be average for most pitchers. he has the stuff and he has still done a great job when the phillies have needed a good start from him. I think Charlie is a great manager and will always be remembered in philly for the 2008 season. I think that if the phillies do not win a world series this year, i personally believe that they should start shopping around for a new manager.

Possibly. But it's June and the Phills manager is already asking for offensive help. He needs to stop whining and get the most out of what he has. He has better offensive players than many other teams.

When you have the best rotation in baseball (on paper) you naturally have a regression in offense. This was their one worry going into this year. They have no room in their budget for another big bat. You cant have both Phillies. Hitting or Pitching, make ur choice.
