08:22 AM ET 06.09 | Chris Drury may be about to hit the open market. Glen Sather left Wednesday's general managers meeting without addressing the media, but the Daily News has learned the Rangers' boss plans to buy out the final season of captain Chris Drury's five-year, $35.25 million contract. "He's gone," the source said of Drury, who had one goal and four assists this season as he sat out 58 games with finger and knee injuries -- more time than he had missed in his 11 previous NHL campaigns combined. The NHL's contract buyout window is June 15-30, and the Rangers have been expected to part ways with Drury since John Tortorella's read-between-the-lines comment on April 25 that "We have to make decisions for what's best for the organization moving on ... It's certainly not mine, my total decision, but I have my thoughts."

Yeah. So why did it take Sather so long to realize it? Good luck finding work elsewhere Chris.

Simple...You have to have a brain before you can make a no brainer!

Good point. I shouldn't make the assumption Sather has one.

I remember when the Rangers signed Gomez and Drury and many Ranger fans were ecstatic. Both were obviously overpaid, but no one could have seen it ending like this.
Drury will sign with another team for like a mill and be a good checking center

This Canadiens fan still winces at the mere mention of Gomez. Ugh!

For a guy his size, losing a step has been devastating to his game which is what I believe has happened. He also had the good fortune of playing for team that was absolutely stacked (Colorado) early in his career and that helped him fly under the radar while playing against 2nd and 3rd lines. When he has been counted on to play against the top players in the league, he has been far less successful.

Can't sign Richards and keep Drury...

He'll have no problem finding work elsewhere, but not for that kind of money. Failing that, there's always McDonald's or Taco Bell. They're always looking for Nutrition Experts and Food Consultants. ;)

Just put him in the minors with Redden. I'm sure it will be a fairly big buyout.

He probably has one of those no move contracts and they can't. But if they can put him the minors they should no cap implications at all.

He has a NMC, so a buyout is thier only option.

I was hank but this thread took a while to show up. Im glad hes gone but still feel bad for players in that situation. CBA needs to address this. A guy like Redden or Souray might still be in the NHL if not for their contracts. Sure they get a lot of dough but in wonder how much they would give up to be off the buses.
And btw...i don't want Richards at a long spensive contract. Rangers are building something with the kids. salary cap death wil **** that up eventually.
