08:26 AM ET 06.09 | Steve Tambellini is becoming a more popular guy. With the NHL draft fast approaching, Tambellini is open to dealing the No. 1 selection. The Edmonton Oilers general manager has had discussions with some of his counterparts around the league and remains willing to discuss a trade leading up to the June 24 draft in Minnesota. It's the second straight year Edmonton has held the top pick. "I've had a few calls [from] people kicking the tires of how they can help me make the Oilers a better team," Tambellini said Wednesday after the NHL's GMs meeting. "For me to move the No. 1 pick it would have to be obviously something exceptional. Because this is a huge building block again for us."

Don't trade the pick for a player, Steve. You can switch places with someone else in the top 10 for a couple of extra picks or a good player and a pick. Continue the rebuilding process. Look at what it did to Pittsburgh.

You must temporarily disable your flash player until SI gets the problem worked out. I was given this tip yesterday and it's worked so far.

Guess they aren't so high on RNH?

Not sold at all on RNH. Personally, I'd pick Huberdeau. He had a great year, a monster post-season and looked better than anyone else at the Memorial Cup. If the Oilers think they can trade down to 7 or 8 for an extra pick and still get him, they shouldn't rethink that strategy. He doesn't make it past #5.

Huberdeau won't get past #4 (wonder what team that is). He has made it a 4 man race. He has shot up the rankings, which is impressive, though makes me a little nervous he isn't just a flash in the pan. But that is the draft overall.

The Oilers desperately need a legit #1 Center. They never had anything resembling a #1 Center ever since Doug Weight left town. They have to draft a Center with their #1 pick.
Everybody keeps talking about drafting a D-man with their #1 pick. I disagree. They already have a good crop of young D-men developing in their system and can draft a few more further down but, #1 Centers are hard to come by.

It would depend on what I got offered for it.
A good forward and a top D man would tempt me.

Sure. But it'd have to be a good forward and a top D-man who'd want to play in Edmonton.

He would of been better off, making someone an offer they wouldn't even consider.

Saw RNH play in his one and only game in Portland this year. Thought he was good, but 1st pick good? hmmmmmmmmm

Wholeheartedly agree. Couturier or Huberdeau for them, although that Swedish Iranian kid has been getting lots of praise since last week's Combine.
