08:30 AM ET 06.10 | NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly played the name game Thursday in Winnipeg. Daly, in town for meetings with True North Sports and Entertainment, saw some of the possibilities for the team name, but wouldn't divulge them. "I know a little bit more today than I knew yesterday," Daly said. "But I don't think that decision's been made, yet. Part of the presentation today was going through the team identity and the possibilities there. Mark (Chipman) still has a lot of good options in that regard." While the NHL owns the Jets name and is willing to give it to Chipman, the chair of True North, Daly points out the team's competitive history, including team and individual records, belongs to the Phoenix Coyotes. "One of his concerns about the Jets' name and identity is that he really doesn't own his history," Daly explained.

I think taking the Jets name would be just as appropriate as the Lerner family taking the Browns name when awarded the Cleveland franchise back in '98'.

I was just going to say, if it was OK for the Browns it should be fine for the Jets. Wipe the history clean, so when the Yotes go to (insert city here) they can wipe their history clean too.

Ditto.

The Yotes will be history soon enough and Winnipeg can start with a fresh Jets history...Sure the NHL history is with the Yotes...but the Name is Winnipegs through and through...go Jets.

Manitoba Falcons..."the winnipeg jets" is weak....last week...plus every pegger has a jets jersey..how are the new owners supposed to cash in on their new toy??

There shouldnt even be another name considered, calling them anything but the jets is like having one nhl team in toronto and not calling them the maple leafs, undo a wrong, put the jets back.

One online poll has 60% of voters selecting the Jets name, and only 8% for the Falcons name.

Interesting that they should consider "Falcons" for a name...that's the name of Atlanta's NFL team!

just about every team in the league excluding the oilers and flames where losers in the jets era... if you read the jets playoff history youll see they ran into the oil almost every year... they put out some good teams almost every year but got their arses handed to them by the oil like everyone else did...

So are many names. Detroit Lions. LA Clippers. Chicago Cubs. Its not making THEM change their names.

I get their issue, but if they don't choose the "Jets" they are marketing themselves to Manitoba only. I know I'll be buying a blue Jets jersey as soon as the roster is set...I won't be doing it if they are the Falcons (RBK will mangle that jersey I'm sure) or any other name.

A few of my buddies and I are even planning a pilgrimmage to the Peg to see the Jets. Won't happen for another named team.

The Winnipeg Tumbleweeds.

MLB did it when the Original Washington Senators moved to Minny to become the Twins. Expansion Team became the Senators.
