Blue Jackets eyeing Flyers' Carter

08:32 AM ET 06.10 | Simple math may not help the Flyers if they add Ilya Bryzgalov, which may mean moving talent from Philly. The Blue Jackets aren't waiting for the NHL entry draft this month to start work on what they hope will be a summer of blockbuster deals. Multiple NHL sources have told The Dispatch that the Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers have discussed a trade that would send Flyers center Jeff Carter, an All-Star in 2009, to Columbus for a top-six forward and the No. 8 overall pick in this year's draft. That top-six forward, presumably, is 21-year-old Blue Jackets winger Jake Voracek, a restricted free agent. Though it could occur sooner, it's likely such a trade wouldn't be completed until the first round of the entry draft is held on June 24 in St. Paul, Minn.

Carter otherwise known as Mike Richards ugly step sister has got to be tired of having his name linked to almost every flyers trade rumour the last 4-5 years. I bet hes never unpacked his stuff since he arrived in philly.

There'd be two positives to this.....the Flyers would finally be able to sign a #1 goalie, plus all the other players wouldn't have to worry about Carter hitting on their wives.

Nope...then they'd just have Chris to worry about...
They didn't call him Pronger for nothing...

I don't see Carter enough on a game by game basis...Is this enough to ask for and is he really that over paid?

Who considers Voracek a Top 6 forward?

Otherwise not terrible. Flyers get 8th overall pick, Voracek and Bryzgalov. Jackets get the 2nd quality forward they've been looking for since drafting Nash.

Still not sure Bryz is the answer though - his playoffs against the Wings the last 2 years we horrendous.

Agree. Carter is one of Philly's only true snipers. Isn't it better not to resign the likes of a Leino and Carcillo try to keep Carter?

I love Carter in the regular season but he disappears in the playoffs too much. If we got a decent forward (top 6 or not) plus a good draft pick, this could be a good deal. The Flyers have known that they were going to have to sacrifice some scoring to get a #1 goalie. If they only lose Carter, they are doing all right.

I disagree. JVR and Giroux have developed into very good offensive players. Briere is money in the playoffs. Richards drives me crazy but he can score. For most of last season, the Flyers had four lines that could score. I'm ok with losing Carter if it results in them getting a top goalie.

That's fine as the Flyers wouldn't meet the Red Wings until the Cup Finals. And, as has been reported in these threads, the Red Wings are on the decline that meeting probably won't happen. So, it's a good deal for the Flyers ;)

Bryz is a good goalie but i think you have to consider the teams style when looking at his record.... tippets squad are always very defensive orientated.... philly is more balanced, will that hurt bryz..

Bryz is a real NHL goalie...so it couldn't hurt too much.

Mark Twain works in the Red Wings publicity department: "The reports of our death are greatly exaggerated." ;)

But the Flyers didn't make it to the finals this year either Phantom...so couldn't it be said that they are on the decline too? : )
If not...well then consider it said, The Flyers are on the Decline...now reported on these threads in fact, so it must be so. :)

i dont doubt that bryz would improve the flyers for sure... its just a question i would think that would be considered when your looking at changing the makeup of your team.... some pieces will have to go in order to sign him... every leaf fan thought toskala was the best thing since sliced bread because of his record in sj, i could have put up good number playing behind nabokov on a team like that, and we all know how that worked out

Yeah...but the problem with your comparison is that...well, the Flyers are a good team.

lmao... my comparison was to show that you have to look at how the stats got there and not just the stats alone.... philly might have to unload carter and more to sign him.... thats a loss of offense and a change of team chemistry.... i do agree that philly needs an upgrade in goal... because players are gonna be racing by old man pronger like traffic to a hitch hicker...lol
