10:36 AM ET 06.11 | The NASCAR practice of levying "secret fines" is taking another public turn. For the third time in less than a year, NASCAR has issued a monetary penalty against a Sprint Cup Series driver. Multiple sources have confirmed to the Observer and ThatsRacin.com that driver Ryan Newman was assessed a $50,000 fine for striking driver Juan Pablo Montoya during a meeting with NASCAR officials on May 6 at Darlington (S.C.) With Montoya's past history of bouncing around the track, I have a feeling he will get payback on Newman and it will not look like he planned it.

That's just what I was thinking before I saw your comments. This was weeks ago. We all KNEW Newman had punched out Montoya. My question is: Why haven't I seen it yet on Youtube?

na, both wrecks were caused by cars in the slower classes not getting out of the way

June 11, 2011  08:21 PM ET

The crash was amazing. Air under the car made the sand trap useless. So glad no one was hurt.

June 11, 2011  10:22 PM ET

Montoya had it coming,NASCAR should pay Newman for straightening him out

June 11, 2011  10:44 PM ET
