UFL hoped for lockout conditions

08:00 AM ET 06.14 | One need not be a conspiracy theorist to notice the coincidence. From the very beginning, the United Football League (UFL) knew that the NFL faced labor uncertainty during 2011-12 and that the upstart league could capitalize. "The planning of this anticipated that we could possibly leapfrog significantly in the third season," UFL commissioner Michael Huyghue said. "We were hopeful that the situation would be almost exactly like it is right now." That planning could come to fruition this year. ... The talent level has been elevated. Returning UFL starters from the 2010 season have a good shot of playing, but last year's backups likely will not make teams this season. QB Colt Brennan signed with the Hartford Colonials. Rumors have swirled that Ohio State QB Terrelle Pryor could consider the UFL as well.

I would rather be watching L.F.L. games!

Topless cheerleaders couldn't help the UFL.

Maybe... but they are the cream of the crop.

Yeah. The UFL's primary revenue stream comes from selling cookies at games.

I'd rather watch the CFL than the UFL. I lived several years in Ottawa and used to catch Ottawa Rough Rider games before the team folded. Fun to watch.

In a few more years I'd surely taste their cookies.

usfl...ran by the government...no owners players get paid and drug tested like federal workers..lower costs on everything from ticket prices to food and beers at games

June 14, 2011  08:33 AM ET

Nobody is going to watch that.

The NCAA will be the winner.

And players can't be cut or released. No replay, but referees decisions may be challenged in court. Veterans must be given preference in hiring. And no salt on the french fries.

The U.S. government couldn't run a snow cone concession, let alone a football league. Tickets would be cheap but the footballs would cost $80,000 and there would be a three hundred page book defining the proper way to chalk the lines on the field.

If Terrelle Pryor wants to be a starting QB, the UFL is his best chance.

Make that his only chance.
