08:01 AM ET 06.14 | The Blazers have until the end of the month to tender Greg Oden, who would then become a restricted free agent on July 1. They can sit back and gauge what the free agent market will be for the talented but injury-plagued 7-foot center and match any offer Oden receives. If interest is minimal, they can simply sign him to the one-year $8.8 million deal. They can also offer and sign Oden to a multiyear contract. ... Oden, it seems, is open to a long-term return to Portland. "That would be fantastic," Mike Conley said of a multiyear deal. "We would definitely be excited about that." As for the free agent market, Conley said he expects his client to receive a heavy dose of interest.

Even 1 year/$8.8m is too high. He won't get anything more than low money. He's already had the biggest payday that he'll have as a pro.

You would certainly think so...

Another gamble on bad knees? Wonder who will bite if he's asking for a teams long term commitment to him.

An overall #1 pick (bust) for another (bust), but I doubt the G.O.A.T. hired Cho to make such a dumb move right off the bat.

Don't come to LA, Bro.

June 14, 2011  10:10 AM ET

Oden needs to get to Phoenix, their medical staff seems to work miracles while Portland just seems injury prone as a whole

June 14, 2011  10:18 AM ET

Won't this "heavy interest" hurt his knees?

June 14, 2011  10:21 AM ET

Oden has heavy interest from...the Institute of Sports Rehabilitation Medicine.

Probably. I have no idea why any team would want to risk real money on the next Sam Bowie, especially with the salary cap about to shrink.

June 14, 2011  10:48 AM ET

Oden needs to prove he can stay healthy on the court before anything higher than $3 mil per year is tossed his way. Portland should cut bait - if he regains health and becomes a star, it'll be a miracle.

Knicks? With very little money to spend and in need of a big man on the cheap, he's an option.

Jerry West says,"We'll give 'em Monte for Odom". And after the inevitable breakdown of Odom...again...West will finally admit to Alzheimer's diagnosis.

If you are portland.....you wait, let other teams set broken odens value and then you match if the offer is reasonable.IMO, they should part ways......amicably as a failed experimentThey can't keep holding out hope he miraculously stays healthy

Exactly!

So, Mike Conley isn't just his best friend, but also his agent?

June 14, 2011  11:56 AM ET

WOW!! I don't think he'll get a multi year deal. He nneds to show he can be healty for a full season. However, when he is called a burst, I think that is a bit harsh. I think he can get 12pts, 12rb, and 3 block per game if he's healthy.
