Yanks 'obviously worried' about Jeter

08:08 AM ET 06.14 | The 3,000 watch may drag further into this 2011 season for Derek Jeter. Eduardo Nunez came out of the dugout to play short to begin the top of the sixth and Jeter was stuck on 2,994 hits. At least for last night. Maybe longer. "We will keep our fingers crossed," Girardi said. Jeter went for an MRI exam and was diagnosed with a Grade 1 strain -- the least severe -- of his right calf. The Yanks did not announce an immediate roster move. But with interleague games in NL stadiums coming and the need for a deeper bench and pinch-hitters, it will be difficult to keep Jeter off the DL. ... In theory he could go on the DL now and be eligible to return on June 29 for the final two games of a home series against the Brewers; to go after 3,000 in The Bronx again. "Obviously we are worried about this," Girardi said.

Yes, gotta love these threads based on nothing. Last week Pedroia was supposed to miss a month and it was just a day.

He is a .260 hitter who is hitting .179 with R.I.S.P. Only 12 of his 68 hits have been extra base hits. That is what he is now and has been for almost a year. Steady but unspectacular defensively. The Yankees problems are deep. Very deep.
Swisher, Gardener ( arguably the dumbest MLB out there ) Posada, and Cervelli? Say no more.

Maybe Minka, the Cpt's current squeeze, will be able to massage his calf so that Jete can get # 3,000 this week.

No, Brett Gardener is in a league by himself. You have to watch him everyday to totally appreciate his though process.

Gardener actually got picked off at SECOND BASE! Thrown out three times in one game on the bases. He could make a sixty minute follies DVD all himself. Bunting ball four foul with two strikes on him as the lead off hitter in a 1-0 game last night was vintage Gardener. Priceless I tell ya, priceless.

Good morning all!

They'll use this as an excuse to hold him out on the road trip. They desperatly want that 3,000 hit at home. Age is catching up to the Yanks. lots of key guys north of 30 these days.

It also means that we have to listen to the ESPN hype for the next 15 days. <pukes>
