Bochy guarantees bias in ASG selection

08:03 AM ET 06.16 | An unapologetic Bruce Bochy will go with his guys. The Giants' manager has the duty of filling out the NL roster, and he said he wouldn't be shy about populating it with his own players. With positional choices severely limited by injuries to Buster Posey and Freddy Sanchez, Bochy said he would look hard at adding relief specialists Sergio Romo and/or Javier Lopez to the team. "These guys have meant so much to us," Bochy said. "I'll try to be fair, but I'll be biased, to be honest. If I can get guys from my club on there, I'll do it. That's the prerogative you get as manager." Until recently, All-Star relievers were limited to save earners. That has changed now that home-field advantage in the World Series is at stake. Bochy mentioned Atlanta's Jonny Venters and Washington's Tyler Clippard as other setup men who merit consideration.

Well, it will be 50 years before the Giants win another title, so it's understandable.

Nothing new here. The winner gets to call the shots. He won so it is his call.

If those guys have the numbers to merit the team, so be it... however if puts one of his position players ahead of someone with better numbers from another team, he is an idiot. Home field advantage in the playoffs is such a huge advantage.

Good news for the AL World Series team. If Bochy loads his ASG roster up with Giants, the smart money will be on the AL taking the All-Star Game and therefor home field advantage in the World Series for the AL representative.

I suppose it makes sense. After all, it's highly unlikely that the Giants will be in the World Series again, so what does he care? Just get his guys some more exposure.

Not so much.

All AS managers do that. It's nothing new. Joe Torre was shameless in putting Yanks on the team ahead of more deserving players.

By the time players get voted in, Bochy still has to make sure there's a representative from every team. He'll probably only get a chance to put 1 of his own players in.

So what you're saying then, is that Bochy won't have as much of an opportunity to junk up the NL ASG roster with Giants.

You're probably right.

The way it has been for some time...

When you brilliantly maneuver your team past many other 'favorites' to win the World Series, you can pick whatever players you want.

I thought their batters just played over their heads and their pitching was good. Brilliant maneuvering huh?

Bochy brilliantly knew that, for once in his life, Cody Ross was going to not suck.

Yeah, that's the "over their heads" part that AllStarz was refering to.
