Luongo-for-Lecavalier?

08:15 AM ET 06.16 | While Tim Thomas has earned a spot in Boston's sports lore, the goaltender in the other end of this Stanley Cup final is stuck in a very different spot. The more pressing question now concerns the latter. And it must be asked. Now. How can Roberto Luongo ever possibly play another game in Vancouver? ... He has a no-trade clause, but not a no-movement clause. Do the Canucks try to trade him and force Luongo to comply by putting him in the minors? Probably not. Even if they would like to trade him, would they have any takers? Likely not, although perhaps the Tampa Bay Lightning, who are saddled with an untradeable contract belonging to Vincent Lecavalier -- nine years remaining with a cap hit of $7.7 million -- might be interested in discussing the possibility.

Don't do it, Stevie Y. Stay with the fat contract you know as opposed to the one you don't. Lecavalier had a nice playoff. We all know how Robooby's went.

Everyone knows that Schneider is the Canucks goalie on everyone's wish list.

LOL! Touche, GB.

Trade for Luongo? That's funnier than the jokes posted in fvkasm2x's throwdown.

Figures it was Ken Campbell. Stupidest idea ever by the stupidest hockey writer ever.

Every Canuck with a no-trade will gladly waive it for their and their family's safety.

June 16, 2011  08:54 AM ET

I suspect Bobby Lou will waive that no-trade clause.

As much as people are going to blame the gumper, when you only score 8 times the entire series, your chances of winning aren't that great.

June 16, 2011  09:06 AM ET

where did this come from?
Stevie Y would not handcuff Tampa to contract like that for a goaltender who appears to meltdown and stick his foot in his mouth.

Now you know why Timmy got extra hardware last night and none of the sisters did.

If he (Stevie Y) does this, he needs to give back his "Exec of The Year" award. Sather, Milbury, and Burns on their worst day wouldn't make this trade. Oddly though, my son last night said "Maybe he'll go back to The Islanders"
That had me laughing for about a 1/2 hour...they can have him....what a pair that would be...

Luongo had some rough nights, but he threw two shutouts in the finals, and he's the guy who got them there.

Face it. The better team won. No shame in that.

The people have spoken - badly once again. Funny, that so many of 'hockey's-most-knowledgeable-fans, feel so cheated, ahhh-gain. On the other side of the coin, it's almost impossible to call the SC playoffs, a sporting event, anymore. anyway. The new Bett-name could/should be Hack-a-rama, and the goals could become secondary, to the Hack-attack points achieved by each team. Frankly, I'm surprised G.Ari got out alive, or wasn't even physically attacked.

Agreed. Luongo will end up with the blame, but it wasn't all his fault.

Q: Why does Luongo like the massage parlors in Boston better?
A: He ALWAYS gets yanked in Boston!

You could be right 3RB.

He "waved" at a lot of pucks this series.

Exactly. When your top two players, who happen to each won the Art Ross and most likely Hart trophies in back-to-back seasons, combine for only 1 goal, you can't possibly entirely blame Luongo. Also, where was Kesler the entire series?

But, Luongo let in too many week goals, especially in Boston.

Buy-out, and an early retirement, are definitely in order (he obviously isn't really interested antmore??). They could do a character-assassination, or plant some evidence. Whadda y'mean - that WASN'T made legal under NAFTA !!
