Schneider lurking over Luongo's shoulder

08:29 AM ET 06.17 | The postmortems are rolling in, with Roberto Luongo still -- as will likely be the case for some time -- taking a good deal of the heat. In losing four of his last five starts, Luongo posted a goals-against average of 4.66 and a save rate of .846. But the debate about Vancouver's goaltending will be far fiercer on airwaves and the internet than in Canuck offices. Luongo has 11 years and a no-trade clause left on his $64 million contract. Still, it's a discussion that has to occur before the Canucks put their most coveted bargaining chip, backup goalie Cory Schneider, on the trade market. Schneider has waited without complaint for five years -- since Luongo was acquired in 2006, two years after Schneider was drafted -- to go somewhere he has a future as a starter. He should fetch the Canucks an excellent young player in return. But Gillis must be absolutely sure about Luongo before he makes that move.

Start shopping Schneider; see what he will get in return and look for a back up for Luongo. He is still the goalie of the future, he stank out the arena in SC finals but I feel he is better than Schneider. Luongo is not the sole reason the Canucks did not win the cup. Sure he is part of the problem, but there were a lot more than himself who didn't show up during the last 7 games...Sedin 1 and Sedin 2, Kesler, et al. Who knows, maybe this will make them hungrier, less likely to open mouth and insert foot and realize that it takes 4 games to win a series, not just 3. And build a playoff model based on the success of the Red Wings who would take a few steps ahead, then drop back one, more ahead, etc until they were successful.

Too long a time and too much money left in the contract to make that a viable option. The Canucks need to take a deep breath and get focused again. Bobby Lou came up flat in the playoffs, but he is still a good goalie. They really have only one option and that is to have Luongo as their starting goalie.

I think that Luongo was the ringleader of the "band of criminals and anarchists" that caused the rioting in Vancouver. He deliberately let those goals in to give the rioters an excuse to burn the shopping district. I understand none of the stores were giving him any discounts or freebies.

SCHNEIDER LURKING OVER LUONGO'S SHOULDER.
That pretty much makes it unanimous then...everything is over Luongo's shoulder these days...

I agree he was not the sole reason they didn't win...but he pretty much is responsible for being the sole reason that they lost...

Vancouver may want to try one of those American-type goaltenders out full time...It worked pretty well for Boston.

gm's never learn. They want the favorable cap-hit because they don't like negotiating....but at the same time they should be certain about the type of player they want to lock up long-term. Nobody should have ever considered Luongo in such high esteem to think that he would be a career blue-chipper. He is not Brodeur, and anybody that would have forwarded that argument (while still a panther) is a dolt.

Some say the man that forwarded that argument when Luongo was still a Panther is now a genius...Isn't that so Mr. Keenan?
