09:38 AM ET 06.18 | Can an NFL rookie quarterback help persuade a mercurial 10-year veteran who is thinking about leaving his team to stick around instead? That's what new Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is trying to do with wide receiver Steve Smith. Newton openly lobbied for Smith to stay with the team Friday at Smith's football camp at Ardrey Kell High in Charlotte, which Newton showed up to work at Smith's request.

Did you ask him if he would take a pay cut to stay and watch you learn?

June 18, 2011  11:10 AM ET

You want Smith to stay? Then work on your deep out throw you self aggrandizing rookie.

Smith wont be able to catch any thorws, they'll be over and under:-P
Sign with New England or da Raiders!

Does Smiths football camp include players from other teams or just Panthers? If Smith is working out with Panthers only there should be no concern about him leaving. Like Alex Smith working out with the 49ers, you don't work out with players you have no intention of playing with.
