Is Reid's playcalling to blame?

A.J. Feeley made the quarterback decision very easy for Andy Reid this week. If the head coach doesn't do some serious thinking about his offensive strategy, however, Donovan McNabb's return won't be enough to save this swiftly sinking season. It has long been the feeling that play-calling and game-planning have combined to undermine McNabb over the last few years. Yesterday's 28-24 loss to Seattle served two purposes. It took McNabb out of the equation, and it showed that wacko play-calling is the Eagles' single biggest problem.

If Andy Reid told AJ Feeley to throw the ball right at Lofa Tutupu three times then that really is some wacko play calling. If not then lets all just blame the Quarterback.

Reid DID NOT throw the pick in the end zone that cost the game. AJ did.

I have seen Feeley make a lot of bad decisions, but I can buy that Reid is partially to blame

Run the ball straight into the middle of the defensive line 3 times in a row yesterday from inside the five with 8 in the box, are you kidding me, of course it's playcalling! That was stupid to say the least!

Yup, dumb play calling. Needed to keep it on the ground more. Why put so much faith in a wishy-washy QB like Feely?

Reid has been one of the best coaches in the NFL for quite a while now. It is a bit hard to believe all of a sudden he has become the "village idiot".....Maybe he does not have the talent he once did. Did Wade Phillips all of a sudden "get smart?" or does he just have better talent to get the job done.
Any day Philly does not want Reid, there will be 15 teams lining up to have him coach their team...Feeley is a shadow of what McNabb was in his prime.

Sad news indeed.

I'll always be a Reid fan... if I start to sway, all I need to do is bring up Kotite and Rhodes.

That said, on 3rd and 1 - why in the world would you draw a play to try and hit LJ on a 20 yard out? Give it to Westbrook... more than not he'll get that yard and some.

On a side note... what are the chances that Tatupu would be willing to sign as a tight-end for us?

December 3, 2007  11:50 AM ET

You can't blame Reid for the INTs, but you can blame him for all-but abandoning the run after Westbrook's TD and entrusting Feeley with the outcome of the game. There was a drive late in the 3d, I think., when they decided to punt on 4th and 1. The next drive, they went for it on 4th and 6 and got stopped. Idiot. The play calling on the last drive was terrible, too.

December 3, 2007  11:54 AM ET

I watched this game. Any mistake Reid made could have been easily overcome. None of Feely's 4 interceptions were the result of good defensive play. He threw into coverage that was recognizable to everyone but him. He's not ready.

December 3, 2007  12:22 PM ET

As costly as those interceptions were, that game was still perfectly winnable. Why put the ball in the air on 3rd and short in horrendous weather like that when you have Westbrook and Buckhalter who are perfectly capable of picking up first downs like that. Clearly, Feely made bad decisions but he's also been collecting dust for a while now. He isn't a replacement for McNabb, or at least who McNabb USED to be, but it's impossible to ignore the hairbrained playcalling that has been plaguing this team since their Super Bowl loss.

Andy Reid's time is up in Philly. I believe some new direction is needed in Philly, I dont think its Donocan Mcnabb because in my opinion McNabb keeps rushing back from injury to try to save his team because he knows they suck when he doesnt play 0-2 without him these last two games. If Eagles had more talent and didnt rely solely on McNabb then McNabb can sit out and actually reach 100% and play like the McNabb of old

December 3, 2007  01:17 PM ET

It gets worse and worse when so much baggage has happened... they and he need a clean start.
