Hawks ready to trade Smith

08:07 AM ET 06.21 | For a number of reasons -- payroll among them -- Atlanta is reportedly looking to move one of its assets soon. [The Hawks] have started to gauge trade interest on forward Josh Smith, and Smith isn't adverse to ending his seven-year stay with his hometown team, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Monday. Smith hasn't requested a trade, but has privately told league friends that the Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, Houston Rockets and Orlando Magic are his preferred destinations should the Hawks decide to move him. "The relationship has run its course," said a league source with knowledge of the dynamic. There's been growing acrimony between Smith and the organization, sources said, largely because of the feeling that Smith has been too convenient of a scapegoat.

Dallas has many other problems to figure out, like retaining the guys they already have.

The. Contract isnt great.....but he's only like 26 and is a good defender.....its not like he's garbage and on the downswing.......for a team looking to upgrade for right now, with an established star....he's a possibilityunfortinately, I can't think of that team right now...maybe to dallas?

Given Amare's back to knee problems Knicks should consider trading STAT for him and Heinrich.

Trading away a star for a guy who is nothing. Why in the world would the Knicks trade away Stat for a guy who does nothing special?

Dallas don't need another headache w/ big contracts. They have their own free agents to worry about. I don't get what that guy is thinking. Will Smith be a backup to Dirk?

You are correct...Dallas is already over the current cap and that is before a new CBA gets worked out.

Then, assuming all stays as is and that is a big IF...they need to re-sign Barea, Stevenson, Butler and Chandler.

Barea and Stevenson will be getting a hefty pay raise while Chandler and Butler are going to be seeking 10+m per season.

Smith is not going to Dallas at all.

For LOSTWILL's sake I hope his suggestion was tongue n cheek otherwise that thinking is more likely to get him foot on arse....

I think that would be a GREAT move for NY...

Smith/Heiny for Amare....

NY would get the same production from their PF spot, while getting depth in Heinrich.

Wont happen, but, it would be a good deal for the Knicks.

Good point. You alread have the best scorer in the league in Melo. Then you have Amare with knee problems, doesn't rebound and has back issues as well. You have cap space for CP3 or another elite player. I'd do it in a heartbeat. It will work out for the Hawks as well.

Slow down there....technically the mavs could trade haywood and another piece to make it work..the hawks then could move horford back to his natural of spot and have a real center....then decided not to re-sign butler bc they woyld have no need for him at that point.....not saying it will happen but Cuban will alwsys find a way to make his team better... .also Stevenson isnt going to get 4 million from anyone out there again.....

By the way what do Boston or Orlando have that the hawks would want...they haveva higher salary cap going into next year as does your heat than Dallas does....but yet Dallas doesn't have cap space? Classic

The biggest problem with Smith is his lack of a true position, he's a sf sizewise but his skillset is that of a pf. He can be a very good player but it just seems his tweener status makes it hard to make him fit offensively as a starter

Yea..the Hawks are going to need equal talent coming in return and Haywood is not even close to Smith's level.

Plus, Smith is a Power Forward and so is Dirk...so that makes no sense.

Cuban will get their deals done, but Barea I am not sure about...he just might get more money than Dallas can give and he could walk...

Boston and Orlando have nothing that Atlanta would be willing to deal for outside of the obvious stars and they are going no where.

I really do not see any single team making a huge improvement this offseason in hopes of the following season being players in the Howard, CP3 free agent movement.

plus Smith has a $6 million Trade Kicker in his Contact .... so it his contact + plus the Trade kicker on the CAP at $3m for each of the Two years left ...

I guess ATL could send $3m in the trade to pay 1/2 of the Trade Kicker ...

do not see Smith Wavering the Trade Kicker
