WVU makes Stewart a millionaire

08:17 AM ET 06.21 | Bill Stewart is out of a job, but he's also a millionaire. Who says America isn't great? The confidential settlement between Stewart and West Virginia University that turned him into a former coach and cleared the way for the school to give the head coaching job to Dana Holgorsen was released late Monday afternoon. Stewart gets $1.65 million in general and liquidated damages for going away quietly. That is roughly what he would have received under his old agreement had he coached this year and taken another undefined job from the school for the next two years. This way he gets the money without the work.

Is the source of the payoff funds from private donors, from the taxpayers of WV, or a combination of the two?

regardless of where it was the smart thing to do. he could have easily found an attorney and sued them for any number of things. it was also the right thing to do.

Agree had they just done it prior to brining DH on board. They got it out of order.

If WVU gets crushed by LSU, does not win the BE, and loses its bowl game (or any 2 of those three) there will probably be a new AD there in 2012-and it will be 100% justified.

UTK has been pretty good at making unemployed men millionaires lately.

I missed that line at career day. BTW, isn't it funny how we all hammer him for this, but if we could, most of us would take the life of coach/multi-millionaire, drunk womanizer??

Sounds like fun to me.....

I think deep-down inside they want RichRod back. He's a pretty good coach - he really is. He just needs a better defense. Hey, I'm a Notre Dame fan and a fired RichRod beat ND 2 out of 3 times. ND really sucks, but this is the year we turn it around!

Dear UTK College Pres,

I would like to highly recommend VFH for the position of athletic director. I can assure you he won't make nearly as many hiring mistakes as his predecessor! This will save the university millions.

Respectfully,

DC
