08:23 AM ET 06.22 | Scott Howson is becoming more popular by the day. For Howson, who is intent on trading the No. 8 overall pick and is willing to listen to any offer that doesn't include Jackets captain Rick Nash, this is good news. "I've had a few surprise calls, players who might be available," he said. "It's not been specifically about the pick, but just, 'Here's what I'm thinking about doing', and, 'Here's who might be available.' There's a lot going on, more than normal. Teams realize we're more open to trading a top-10 pick than we've been in the past for immediate help. That has generated some interest." The draft, which starts on Friday, and free agency, which begins on July 1, give clubs two prime chances to dramatically change the look of their roster.

I don't understand why they always think that trading picks and players shows the determination of management to improve. If Howson is such a genius at making great trades, why aren't the Jackets better than they are? He's had since 2007 to do something.

Picks are literally worth nothing this year. I think Boston may be the only team in the top ten who hasn't bandied about trading their selection. And that was Toronto's pick. Luckily for them, they realized the weakness of this draft class YEARS in advance and wisely traded it for something of value.

Only playoff appearance was under his watch, and it has taken him this long to undo all the mess Dougie Mac left.
Blue Jackets also play in one toughest divisions in the League. Not an excuse by any means - I am as frustrated as any fan about the lack of playoffs, which primarily comes from lack of constant winning against Detroit, St Louis, Nashville and Chicago.
Sadly the Jackets have never played bad enough to get a #1 pick, either.
I will let the Jackets record against the East speak for itself under Howson's watch.

Good. Now all Holmgren needs to do is sign Bryzgalov, then trade Carter to the Blue Jackets for the draft pick and another player or two. Flyers upgrade the goalie position and hopefully start bulking up the farm team with some badly needed talent.

This is something that Pen fans will never understand BBBJ.
On the other hand...Don't you think it would be funny that after next year, when Lidstrom finally retires, the Jackets get bought and sold to a Canadian City?

The Jackets should trade all their first round picks, because they can't draft. They got Nash and no one else. Trade them to get at least something useful.

Nash is being wasted away...
Should have came to Toronto when he had the chance. He is gonna regret that for the rest of his life.

They trade picks because they are such crappy drafters.
Although, last years pick from what I've seen (not a lot, since he is in the WHL), Ryan Johansen, is gonna be a hell of a player. Last year I thought they picked him way too early, but he had a terrific year last season, and I'd probably take him over RNH or anyone in this draft.
Maybe they will trade Johansen for Bozak???

I wouldn't call it a weak class.
There is a few players I really like; Huberdeau, Dougie Hamilton, Nathan Beaulieu, Gabriel Landeskog, Mark McNeill, Boone Jenner and Matt Puempel. Keep an eye on this players in the future.

But he would have rotten away with great attention and been treated like a rotten God.

Bryzgalov is not an upgrade.
They should just stick to Bob.
And why do the Flyers wanna get rid of Carter so badly?
