07:02 AM ET 12.04 | Boise State football coach Chris Petersen said Monday he is not interested in taking over the UCLA program. He also disputed a report in Monday's Los Angeles Times saying that the Bruins had contacted Petersen about their job, which became open when the school fired Karl Dorrell on Monday. The newspaper also indicated that Petersen was the Bruins' top choice. "I'm not interested in that place," Petersen said. " I've talked to nobody through the grapevine, (or) this guy talked to that guy. It's totally not true." One school has contacted Petersen about a job opportunity, he said. He would not name the school.

TRUTH to UCLA........OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

December 4, 2007  10:21 AM ET

This is definitely UCLA's loss and Boise State's gain. The UCLA job must be worse than it looks.

BRING BACK TERRY DONAHUE!!! (Or Dick Vermeil.)

December 4, 2007  10:21 AM ET

PS The "I'm not interested in that place" comment is a slam, to be sure. Ouch indeed.

December 4, 2007  10:37 AM ET

Maybe UCLA should go after Lloyd Carr, he's pretty good at finishing second, I mean that would be an improvement for UCLA......

December 4, 2007  10:37 AM ET

That PLACE..is kinda like sayin' THOSE PEOPLE...not good..but kinda funny ya know?

December 4, 2007  10:54 AM ET

Chris Peterson Boise St.'s coach may not be interested in the UCLA job, maybe he is holding out hope to get hired for the Michigan job??!! Maybe he just wants to really step up. When he steps out of Boise like what U.Meyer did w/Utah & then Florida. I wonder if Ron Zook would be interested in the Michigan job. As also Brian Kelly CIN coach may, also, UCONN's coach's name has been thrown out there. For the UCLA job: I heard about possibly Norm Chow OC Tenn Titans, but what about Steve Sarkisian OC of the USC Trojans.

December 4, 2007  10:56 AM ET

TRUTH, I heard this line alot when I was in Ann Arbor, "oh so you're a buckeye, huh....."
So I can relate with UCLA on that one...

December 4, 2007  12:32 PM ET

I told you so!

Sorry couldn't resist. :)

Can't imagine why CP would seem to indicate disdain for UCLA in his response. My guess is that it was unintended or maybe it was directed @ Guerrero and his public comments about his coach with a month left in the season. A guy like CP wouldn't work for someone he didn't respect.

Props to you, Don W. This UCLA job must be a stinker. Maybe it's now a "now-win" type of job. (I actually don't think UCLA needs much more than a good coach to be competitive in the PAC 10. They get consistently good athletes apparently because SoCal sells itself.)

December 4, 2007  02:15 PM ET

Joker Phillips from UK should be the next UCLA coach. He's young, offensive minded, and has a great repore with the players. He would be perfect.

December 4, 2007  02:38 PM ET

As of right now Boise State is the place to be. A program that has been successful. UCLA is in a horrible position. Sad to say they are not an elite team right now. USC,Oregon, and CAL will always dominate UCLA. Good luck. Steve Mariucci would not be a bad thing for them, except He led the Lions to nothing. Go Luck Bruins... Look else where in te WAC.. Maybe Pat Hill. He is a great coach and maybe Fresno State needs a change as well.

December 4, 2007  03:46 PM ET

take Franchione Bruins! just don't give him internet access...

December 4, 2007  04:31 PM ET

I think the UCLA job is a program whose turnaround would be the easiest. Pac-10 is not that strong besides USC, Ariz St., and a mobile-QB Oregon. Put together a couple of winning seasons with some quality wins, and you'll soon get blue-chip recruits out of Cali cuz they ALL can't go to USC, although they probably do now.

Whoever the Bruins decide to hire as their new head coach, they should seriously consider keeping their Defensive Coordinator DeWayne Walker. He took a perrenially bad defensive team and made them into not only one of the top defensive teams in the Pac 10, but in the country as well (two years ago). Their numbers may not be mind-blowing this year compared to a year ago, and that can be attributed to all the unsustained drives, punts, turnovers this year's offense has put them through. With a little more protection offensively, UCLA would have a dominant defense in the Pac 10.

Don't believe this.....hollow words, coaches has said the same thing before and 48 hours later they are announced as the new coach, LOL.

December 4, 2007  05:50 PM ET

I say ive found the solution for this UCLA disaster! Just call the Patriots ask for the Offensive coordinators number and ask him if he wants the job, knowing from history he will and destroy the team even more (Weis) unless people have learned

What's Petersen supposed to say when his name is being floated around for a job even though he still has a bowl game to prepare for? Petersen has been the favorite of the blogosphere to replace Dorrell since early this season. I have my doubts about Petersen because he's only been a head coach for 2 seasons which really isn't that much. A lot of why Petersen is such a hot commodity is that people are hoping he's the next Urban Meyer. I don't know if that comparison is valid. Petersen had a great season last year and takes the credit for the FIesta Bowl win even though I've read that it was his OC that made all those gutsy calls. Something that has to be considered is that this is Los Angeles. This is the city of Phil Jackson, Pete Carroll, Joe Torre, Mike Scioscia, and Ben Howland. Obviously, UCLA Football has fallen so far off the radar that Boise State's coach is coming out and denying any interest in the job. The more I think about it, the more I feel that UCLA needs to make a splash with a big name coach, someone who's going to excite the recruits. I think Steve Mariucci could be a great fit for UCLA. He's a former NFL coach whose rah-rah style seemed a better fit for the college game kind of like the coach down the freeway at that downtown school.

Peterson's dream job is University of Oregon, but it doesn't look like that will open up anytime soon.

OREGON!!! Dream Job...are you kidding me! Funny one juicy boy.
