Transfers mystify Gators coach
Gators coach Urban Meyer said that he understood why backup quarterback Bryan Waggener is transferring, but said he didn't know why ''other guys'' have decided to leave. Waggener, a former junior college transfer, didn't play this season and only has two more years of eligibility left, as does Tebow. Sophomore receiver Jarred Fayson, freshman running back Bo Williams and sophomore defensive end Trent Pupello also plan to transfer.

Being a Gator fan and following UF football, when I see this happening, I see it happening because those players are unwilling to put forth the effort in practice to play on Saturdays (with the exception of Waggener, that one is obvious). Meyer is a "prove it in practice play on Saturday" coach. Some of these kids come in with all these blue chips on their shoulders and think that automatically qualifies them to play on Saturday.

Maybe you should quit being so full of your Florida self and think of as if you were a player. Tebow is a great QB so don't get me wrong, but what if you were a receiver or running back that had the potential to become a star athlete yet you never got that chance because there was a Tebow that always got more attention? I can understand why these guys might want to transfer. I'm sure they were just tired of blocking for Timmy on every play and wanted a few touches themselves. As for the defensive end, I don't know what his problem might be unless he was upset because the defense never got on the field as a result of the high powered offense.

Very constructive comment there dlluah06, I guess 6-6 will do that to ya.
Sure don't here Percy Harvin, Bubba Caldwell, Cornelius Ingram, Riley Cooper, Louis Murphy, or Deonte Thompson whining much. Maybe it's because they are "team" players and not selfish egotistical statisticians. Tebow carried the load primarily because UF had no running game (until they infused Harvin in there), this is why Tebow had to do both (run and pass). With a feature back, you would not have seen the running from Tebow like this year, hence opening things up for someone else. If my memory serves me correctly, didn't Tebow throw 29 TD passes? Hmmm was he throwing them to himself (not that I doubt that he actually couldn't)? Get your facts straight dude.

If this is an ND story it's b/c people are jumping ship and has nothing to do with whether they're playing or not. (oh and Charlie's fat, can't forget that one).

Good one prisonmatt07! It seems like no matter where any of these stories start out thay almost always wind up with the predictable ND barbs. Players leave any program because they feel their chances of getting to the next level may be better served somewhere else. It is not a condemnation of the coach, program or university (in most cases). Why is that so hard to understand?

Is there any truth (no pun intended) to the conspriacy theory that Urban's program only works until the other teams catch on?
Kind of like once the coaches in the SEC see it enough the gimmick will be gone?
I dont know, I think its a good "system", but I heard that somewhere?

As previously mentioned, players transferring when they aren't receiving playing time at their current school is certainly not unheard of. However, with the APR ratings from the NCAA not retaining your student athletes could penalize the programs.
In a nutshell each student athlete has the potential to earn two points- one for eligibility and one for retention. If the student is still academically eligible, but chooses to transfer the school loses that retention point. All points are divided by points possible. If certain scores aren't met the responsible teams will lose scholarships. Four players shouldn't drop Florida below that line, but they better hope they aren't also losing points for eligibility.

Fayson isn't a surprise to me. The kid probably has an eye towards the NFL and playing in a system where he doesn't have a true position hurts him. Florida uses him more as a running back and that's not his position. He's too frail.
Plus considering he was a high school quarterback he might want to go back to that position in college.

Bo Williams also doesn't surprise me considering the running game next year is going to be Tebow, Moody, and a bunch of receivers.
