07:59 AM ET 06.27 | Among the "name" QBs taken in the draft, few are in as advantageous a position as Blaine Gabbert. The only expectations for him this season in Jacksonville are to get splinters on his rear end from sitting on the bench, and blisters on his index finger from keeping charts on the sideline. ... [Jack Del Rio] wants Gabbert to seek mentorship from former successful quarterbacks, and plans on setting up meetings as soon as he is able. "I'd love to see him spend some time with a Joe Theisman, a Rich Gannon, guys I know well who have done it at the highest level," Del Rio said. "Find out what it takes to be a quarterback in this league, what are some of the things you should and should not be doing. How you manage your time, deal with people pulling at you from different directions."

I hear Jon Gruden would be willing to shower Gabbert with his QB man crush.

That was my first thought - the incumbent isn't good enough?

Jack Del Rio has been the head coach of that team for 8 years. He has produced a 65-63 record in that time with ONE playoff win.
Honestly, wouldn't that get most head coaches fired? He makes Wade Phillips look like Vince Lombardi.

Absolutely.

But - this is Jacksonville...

Nothing keeps a stadium half-empty like a mediocre team. Del Rio may be part of the sinister plot to move the Jags to, uh, well, what's that city which is rumored to be looking for an NFL team again?

True, but they fired Coughlin. Guess they just lowered that bar so Del Rio could fall over it. Or , they are keeping him for that move to LA. Del Rio, it even sounds Californication like.

Marvin Lewis.

Gabbert has the size and arm but IMO he came out of college too early. The proper tutoring and patience could pay off.

Stories like this are good. It keeps reminding me that Florida has a semi professional team. They don't make as much as their SEC counterparts, but they are a nice break on Sundays from NASCAR.

No 'tutor' will prepare him for Freeney and Mathis...

June 27, 2011  10:12 AM ET

What difference does it make? I thought MJD said they gots this.

Or Texan ( with the Rio Grande), Arizonan, New Mexican. But Jack is a Californian, played at USC.
