08:03 AM ET 06.28 | Though he'd like to stay in the Twin Cities, Ben Leber understands his days in purple may be over. Leber has been a starting linebacker for the Vikings for the past five seasons, but the nine-year veteran admits he isn't sure if he will return to the team when the NFL lockout ends. "The reality is if they were really, really wanting me back then maybe something would have been said before the lockout," said Leber. ... "It's not always up to you and you have to be willing to move on." Leber signed with the Vikings as a free agent in 2006 after spending his first four seasons in San Diego. However, in that case, he was able to shop his services and sign in March. The lockout has meant that free agency has yet to start and when it does it's going to be a short and very busy period. "I get a little anxiety about it," said Leber.

"It's not always up to you". That's a good lesson to learn in the NFL. Another would be: 'It's not always ABOUT you".

I live in Minnesota and I have no idea who the heck this guy is.

Of coarse it would help if I was a Viking fan!

Who would it help? The Vikings? No, they're beyond help.

And we here at FN are better served with you as a Packer fan.

If the Vikes ask you to help load the moving van, well, that would be a nice gesture, but don't hurt your back doing it, OK?

I've heard of him. Which is more than I can say for that Clam Chowder guy yesterday.

I'm sure there are a lot of free agents who getting a little anxious to see how this works out.

I suspect that this "lightning round" of free agency before the season starts is going to be good for the players. Teams will be interested in filling gaps right away, so they're going to pay top dollar before somebody else snatches up the FAs they want.

If the new CBA includes a rookie salary cap, as many think it will, that will free up money under the team caps to re-negotiate veteran salaries and to hire free agents. Again, good for the players.

The 12th man on the field no one knew about, I'm with you, he has been a starter for the last 5 years? The guy needs a new agent.

Bud Grant used to routinely put 12, even 13 guys on the field for special teams. He discovered that nobody was counting, so why not? At worst, it was 5 yards and do it again.

That kind of imaginative thinking got him to 4 Superbowls.

Imaginative thinking or cheating? Probably both. I have no doubt that every other team in the NFL would have tried it if they had thought of it. I guess Bud wasn't quite imaginative enough to win the Superbowl though.

From one stupid Canadian here, I have no idea where they ever thought Jets would be a good name out in Winnipeg. They must have simply looked up in frustration and thought 'Eureka'! We have 'fly over' provinces. Then there's the' Blue Bombers'...

Who's Leber??

June 28, 2011  09:53 PM ET

Newsflash to Leber... you wouldn't be the only one who didn't get a new deal before the lockout.

Too bad all that thinking did was get them there.
