Smith's secret call paints bleak CBA picture

08:02 AM ET 06.30 | A labor agreement may not be as likely as some believe. The night before delivering a joint message to NFL rookies with commissioner Roger Goodell, NFL Players Association executive director DeMaurice Smith held an under-the-radar conference call Tuesday to update many of the league's most prolific stars on the status of labor negotiations, FOXSports.com has learned. Perhaps the most important thing to emerge from the talks so far was this: While saying he was optimistic because the two sides were continuing to negotiate, Smith painted a different picture than that of a collective bargaining agreement being reached as soon as this weekend. Smith began the call by informing players -- 50 Pro Bowlers were given call-in information, but the number of participants is unknown -- that recent reports by certain news outlets were way off.

If T&R really knows something about this "secret "call then spill it....can you get more vague than--> "that recent reports by certain news outlets were way off."?

Can't they find a different picture of Goodell? This one they repeatedly use looks like he's giving a sermon.

We all hate this picture. You're, uh, preaching to the choir.

But to take the edge off, imagine Roger singing soprano.

What the hell is the writer thinking? Override reports from all media because of what faux.com says? Why so eager to be so wrong?

June 30, 2011  09:02 AM ET

Typical FoxSports- overblowing a "non story" into some "labor intrigue." Apparently all D. Smith said was that there would be no agreement as soon as this weekend, but that he was optimistic about how things were going. How is that "bleak labor news?" It was just an update on the proceedings. Oh, but that wouldn't be "news" then, would it?
