While Duke talked to longtime assistant Rod Broadway, no candidate might be as important to the Blue Devils as Navy coach Paul Johnson. Duke officials met Tuesday with Johnson, who also is reportedly being courted by Georgia Tech and Southern Methodist.

ANCHORS AWAY....ANCHORS AWAY!!!!!!!!!!!

December 5, 2007  09:30 AM ET

Why, pray tell, would Johnson be interested in the Dukey job? Navy has a better program that would be a step down unless they ante up a couple of mill.....

December 5, 2007  09:32 AM ET

Rhym...you are missing the point..if he goes to Dukey..he gets to be around Coach Cheshefski...and he can learn to **** gold too!

Man's got saltwater in his veins by now. He won't be shipping out.

December 5, 2007  11:09 AM ET

It's gotta be Georgia Tech. Why would he want the other two jobs?

Why would he want the Tech job?

December 5, 2007  02:47 PM ET

I'm sure people were wondering why he would want the Navy job..

December 5, 2007  02:58 PM ET

I'm with Texed...i'm not so sure he would want to leave the Naval Academy...not for Duke anyways.

December 5, 2007  05:40 PM ET

Why not Michigan...?

December 5, 2007  05:43 PM ET

And I think it is "Anchors Aweigh" THE TRUTH.

December 5, 2007  07:51 PM ET

No, it's just "Anchors Aweigh."

December 5, 2007  10:26 PM ET

Duke football does not need a coach... it needs CPR

December 5, 2007  10:29 PM ET

On a serious note: He probably knows that if they win two games a year he may hav a job for many years and the fans will be happy and he wins those two games a year against UNC and NC State every year he may have a job for life...LOL

December 6, 2007  06:08 AM ET

So what... at Navy he only has to win ONE game a year and it's been a success. I don't want to see him leave a good situation where he's already making $1.5M per year, he's the best coach we've had in decades.

Arkansas needs to go after Johnson.

...then he can get a pay raise and a contract extension, and never have to leave the comfort of his recliner...

Sorry to see him go. I am interested in knowing if he will run the same offense at tech?

Now colleges from sea to sea
May sing of colors true,
But who has better right then we
To hoist a symbol hue?
For sailors brave in battle fair
Since fighting days of old,
Have proved a sailor's right to wear
The Navy Blue and Gold.

So hoist our colors, hoist them high,
And vow allegiance true,
So long as sunset gilds the sky
Above the ocean blue,
Unlowered shall those colors be
Whatever fate they meet,
So glorious in victory,
Triumphant in defeat.

Four years together by the Bay
Where Severn joins the tide,
Then by the Service called away,
We've scattered far and wide;
But still when two or three shall meet,
And old tales be retold,
From low to highest in the Fleet
Will pledge the Blue and Gold.
